The seat bolts included in my complete kit are too long. The manual shows a Allen head bolt and mine are a regular hex bolt and they are too long to tighten up. Guess I have to make another trip to Lowes and only find 7 bolts in stock when I need 8! Anyone else find this?

Seems mine came with self tappers for that, ooops not going that route. Since I put a 1 1/2" rise on the front to tilt the seat back for comfort (try it, much better than flat) I had longer 1/4 20 bolts in the front going through the steel plate area with large washers and shorter ones in the back.
Parts in the complete kit are for reference only and are there so you wiil know what you want to change. Parts leftover from a complete kit are now a incomplete kit and can be sold for pennies on the dollar. They also make a nice scrap bin starter set for that hard to buy for car guy that has everything he wants but needs things he doesn't.

Lol good one. Now I know what all those older folks on the site meant when they always added a couple of hundred for fasteners!

Well how about just cutting them shorter?

The unthreaded portion of the bolt goes all the way thru. No threads to tighten. Not a big deal, just frustrating.

How much too long? Put a washer on the top and bottom to take up the extra.

During my build process, I got really cozy with a couple of hardware suppliersand a Fastenal shop nearby, and I was always able to find the exact bolts etc. I needed. In fact, I would have found the process very difficult had it not been for those sources. Lumber yards and contractor supply places often have a whole row of racks with this type of hardware, standard and metric, with many of the sizes we use in automotive grade. I never opted to make accommodations to allow use of the wrong-size bolts etc. To me, making that type of compromise unnecessarily blemishes the finishes product, making it look like a kit job than like professional work.

Good grief. I am almost completely done with my build, and every time I open a new package to mount something I kind of assume there might be a McMaster Carr order in my near future. Nothing against FFR's choices, just that by the time you get done fiddling around with 'a', the hardware for 'b' doesn't fit any more. Or it has the wrong finish. Or whatever...I've replaced a lot of hardware.

If you're mounting seats and buying your first new hardware, you are doing REALLY well.
