Hi Folks,

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this issue.

I’m working on rebuilding my Ford 302 (1991 Mustang donor) that’s going in my coupe. I want to order a new oil pan but have heard there may be issues with the stock oil pan hanging below the chassis structure. Can I simply order a stock oil pan replacement or do I need a specific oil pan (ie. more shallow)?

While I’m at it, are there any other “watch-for” issues regarding the fit of OEM parts while using a rebuilt 302 in the coupe? Thx for the help.

If i remember correctly the stock pan is the most shallow pan commonly available. If you get one (a shorter than stock pan) you will need to get a new shorter oil pump pickup.

These cars were originally designed around a Mustang donor so the stock Fox Mustang engine with oil pan and pump works fine. I have one in my old Mkll, the oil drain plug hangs just a fraction below the frame rails but a flush plug fixes it.
