View Full Version : Hose for Coolant Overflow Tank

For various reasons I decided to do away with FFR supplied coolant overflow tank which was mounted to the firewall and replace it with a larger capacity aftermarket unit that could be mounted much closer to the radiator. The only issue with the new tank is that the inlet & outlet nipples are an oddball 7/16 size which limits the overflow hose options. I found an rubber Saint-Gobain Tygon A-60-G tubing which is chemical and abrasion resistant. It has a maximum temp rating of 275 degrees and has an excellent rating of use with 50% Ethylene Glycol/Water mix. My only concern is that the tubing wall is only 1/16 thick. The tubing has a max pressure rating of 6 psi. Like the FFR overflow tank this new tank will be vented to air with the tank overflow going to the ground so there should, in my thinking, be no pressure on the tubing in this application.

Can anyone see a fault in my thinking or a problem with using this particular tubing in this application? I also have some standard 7/16 fuel hose that could be used instead but I wonder how fuel line will stand up to the heat and Ethylene Glycol.

Thanks

shouldn't be a problem. the tubing does not see any pressure as the system is open to air.

FWIW, I purchased a cheap overflow bottle for my 68 Barracuda about 20 years & 100,000 miles ago. It came with clear tygon tubing and it has been holding up all this time just fine.
