I don't think I want the hassle of plumbing all the Hydroboost bits, so what are my other options for a MkIV with a Gen3 Coyote and FF-supplied Wilwood pedal box?

Thanks,

Greg

When you go power assist, whether vacuum or hydroboost, you go back to a Mustang master cylinder which eliminates any possibility of using the Wilwood balance bar. Whitby offers a kit to convert the Wilwood box to accommodate a mustang booster and master for about $600...and you still have to supply the booster. Rather than going this route what I've done on cars that I've built for customers who wanted power assist is forgo the Wilwood box altogether and use a Mustang pedal box along with a Fox body booster and 1994/1995 Mustang Cobra 15/16" master cylinder. You'll spend about $300 for the box, booster and master plus another 20 bucks for a piece of square tubing and hardware to do the frame mod. When you're all done sell the Wilwood box and masters here on the forum and you'll be money ahead!

I'm running pretty much what Jeff said. I'm using a Gen 1 Coyote. I have a Foxbody pedal box with foxbody booster and Cobra master cylinder. I'm also using an aluminum spacer that goes between the booster and firewall. Mike Everson sells it. Works great. I'm using the FFR supplied front brakes and 2015 IRS rear brakes that came on the drop out Mustang rear I bought. I did the Whitby conversion part myself. My car stops on a dime and the pedal feels like a daily driver. On top of that replacement parts are cheap and can be bought anywhere. I'm not sure what your doing for clutch actuation but if using a cable the Mustang pedal box is obviously set up for that as well. I would do it this way again in a heartbeat.

Thanks, guys. That's exactly what I needed to know. The more I'm thinking through this, the more I think I may just stick with manual brakes, and potentially upgrade to Wilwood brakes all around. Money isn't a factor; it's more about ease of install and eliminating unnecessary plumbing, etc. Manual brakes were fine in my donor-build MkIII, so I suspect they may be fine in a MkIV with larger brakes. Regardless, you've given me data to ponder, so thanks!

I actually found the hydroboost system very straight forward to install without a lot of extra plumbing. I got my system from Mike Forte which also included a brake pedal modification that needs to be done when using the Wilwood pedal box. My hydroboost system has a Wilwood dual master cylinder and a rear brake bias adjuster. Mounting the system is as simple as a few bolts and connecting the brake pedal. The only additional plumbing required was a high pressure supply hose and low pressure return hose as part of the power steering system. All the other connections/lines were the same as using the stock brake system, just not located in the drivers foot box.
