Question, if I were to pick up a car during this winter sales event. Do I pay taxes on the final sale cost? Or do I pay sales tax on the wholesale value of all the parts? Every state is different, so I wanted to ask. Thanks!!!

Like you already said, it would bge up to the State. Here in CA the DMV uses the price on the invoice to determine the fees/taxes. Other states may use the value.

In New Jersey buying the parts is like buying anything else, if you buy it in state you pay state tax, if you buy it out of state typically you don't. When it comes time to register the car, you have to submit documentation along with all of the receipts from the build. On mine, I simply made a cover sheet showing what parts I had paid taxes on, and what parts I had not, and provided them with my anticipated tax due which is what they came back and asked me for.

Also note that taxes in NJ are on parts not on services, so for the engine as an example, machining service fees I did not include in the tally sheet.

Again it may be different in your state.

Here in NH we have what is called a "Personal property tax"
Last new car I registered had a sticker price of $27,500.00
Personal property tax was $200 the first year, $125 the second year and $75.00 on the third year.
No sales tax as such as this is NH where you "Live Free or Die"
Yea, no state sales tax or state income tax..
After living my first 50 years in Taxachusetts the past 10 years up here is like like heaven!:D
