1. What is the best carpet glue to use when gluing to aluminum panels?
2. Do I have to install a catalytic converter on my cobra in Florida?
Thanks

I’ve been using a spray glue (3M) ordered from McMaster Carr. You will destroy your fabric if you try to remove it once the glued sides touch. It’s unbelievable.

I used outdoor carpet cement. A bit messier but more working time before it sets up

I used Weldwood All Weather Outdoor Carpet adhesive. Allows for some adjustment while placing the carpet, but sets up rock solid when dry. It is messier, but any missteps clean up easy with some acetone. You do need to have good ventilation.

+1 on the Weldwood (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009X8PEQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) AND the need for a ventilated installation space. You'll need about 2 1/2 gallons if you carpet the full cockpit AND the trunk.

I didn't use acetone though (I think that will bleach / melt the carpet); instead I used mineral spirits, which seemed to have no effect on the carpet.

As for question two, I have registered 2 FFR's in Florida and neither was required to have catalytic converters. Both were registered as 1965 replicas.

Acetone did not damage or disfigure the FFR supplied carpet (or the carpet I got from Amazon for the trunk), not sure about other carpet types. Regardless of the solvent used, I would suggest testing on a scrap piece first.

3M-90. Same as my upholsterer uses, (but spray cans.)

Another +1 on the Weldwood. The ability to adjust the placement is ideal. The 3M spray works well but its one and done on placement.
No cats for me in Florida.

I used the same silicone that I used for riveting the panels. Worked great, gives you a chance to reposition while laying it down plus didn't have to worry about accidently spraying glue on something unintended.
