Rear disc brakes

I am using a donor 8.8 rear end from a 2002 mustang, however I had it narrowed to the fox body rear end width to fit wider rear tires and upgraded to 31 spline axles. This also resulted in the antilock sensor ring to be no longer present on the axle. As a result the 2002 disc brake caliper bracket no longer fits between the rotor and the axle mounting point. Can anyone point to the resolution to this? Do I need fox body brake rotors, caliper brackets or both? Other solutions? Thanks.

Could you possibly go with Ford Explorer Rear Brakes instead?

I'm running these on my 3-Link MK-4 (Explorer 1995-2001 / Rear Wheel Drive) standard brake assembly.
The rotors are about the same size as the Mustang GT front assembly, but use single piston calipers and solid rotors.

That’s an idea, I’ll have to look into. From the YouTube video, it was hard to tell if the caliper bracket was integrated with the axle or bolt on.

The mounting/backer plate mounts to the axel and the calipers bolt to the mounting/backer plate.

I went down this path because the Explorer Rear rotors are just a smidge larger in diameter than the standard Mustang GT front rotors. Basically they scale well when you look at the car from the side plus the E-Brake Cables were Easy-Peasy to route and mount.

NOTE: ..The 5/8" rear MC works fine with the 3/4" front MC.

I have a rear axle from a 2003 mustang and was planning on going the same route. A couple questions for you:
1. How much did it cost to have it narrowed?
2. I assumed the tubes and axles would be cut down and the ends would remain the same (with sensor rings, brakes, etc) was that not possible?

Having it narrowed was a couple hundred bucks. However, if you are going to make other upgrades to the axle, that can increase the cost significantly. Typically only the tubes are cut down and rewelded, it is more practical to just replace the axles with the correct length instead of cutting them and rewelding. If you opt of upgrade to 31 spline axles, that will require a new differential unit which will drive up the costs significantly. In my case, I did upgrade to the 31 spline axle, but without the tone ring for abs. If you find the correct length axle length with abs, etc., then yes you can carryover the same brakes/hardware.

Did you by chance run into the issue of the axle flange on the Mustang axle being smaller than the ford explorer bolt pattern?

cschwer usually the axle housing is cut down to the Fox width and then Fox width axles are installed. Stock Fox axles are relatively inexpensive and there are plenty of upgraded axles available. I think going to a custom width other than Fox width is going to up your costs significantly.

My hope was to narrow the entire assembly to fox width, so that means the housing would be narrower than fox width to allow for the abs tone rings. The axle faces would be the right width overall so that I could use the ff halibrand wheels. I should probably start calling places to get an idea of pricing. I've heard the stock axles can be cut down and resplined.
