Anyone buy a used coyote off ebay with the mt82 transmission? I see these things listed for $6k all the time. Will the mt82 work in the truck? I've yet to order my kit. still trying to decide what motor to run. I have a 2006 mustang gt with the 4.6 3v and a whipple supercharger. i've considered taking the engine and trans from that and putting it in this truck then coyote swap the mustang.;)

There is a class action suit with Ford over 10R80 transmission issues.

Just be careful of what you buy.

In 2020 I bought a used 2017 Gen 2 Coyote with 15,000 miles for $6000. I bought it from a salvage yard and it came from a Mustang that had been in a rear end collision, but the front was fine. They had pictures of the damage and a video of the car running. After selling off the parts I didn't need (headers, AC compressor, misc stuff), the engine cost me $5000. The engine runs great and started right up on first try. I did not get the MT82 transmission because I was planning on using the Tremec TKX. Others have used that transmission, but I believe there are some modifications that need to be done. There is always some risk in buying a used engine, but I felt somewhat confident since I saw the engine running and there was no front end damage. I searched Car-Part to locate my engine.

Sometimes it can be cheaper to buy an entire salvage car rather than an engine and transmission on a pallet. I was lucky when I bought a 2017 GT at a Copart auction. The car was only 6 months old from its manufacturing date. What made it cheap was in CA, there are salvage (rebuildable) and junk (not-rebuildable) titles issued. The GT I bought was given a junk title since, in addition to some front end damage, had the interior stripped, trunk lid removed, etc. The car had been a rental car and apparently after getting involved in a accident, was stripped. My luck that with the junk title not much love at auction and I purchased the car for a bit over $5K and once shipped to AZ cost me $6.5K all in. The second gen coyote and 6R80 AT cost new at the time about $15K, so quite a savings. I was unsure of the mileage because the speedometer cluster had been removed. Once I found a generic OBDII reader and the paid for Torque app would fully read the ECM memory, I determined the mileage since last reset was 2345 miles. So it is very possible that the car was very low miles when totaled out.
Now I lucked out when I found this particular car, but I image in states where the junk title status is applied, similar deals may be possible.

There's also issues with the MT82 reliability. Take it with a grain of salt if you can fit it in. It's also hydraulic clutch and the shift mechanism is a PITA, imo. I'd opt for the TKX, much smoother. I did something similar as Lidodrip, but put it in my SN95 GT and it had 85k. Working just fine and be sure to put new billet oil pump & drive gear on for sanity.
