View Full Version : Fuel pump not coming on

I have a BPE 347 with a Sniper. I broke the ground from the inertia switch and wired it into the ground from the fuel pump so basically the inertia switch would turn off the fuel pump if it was activated. When I turn on the ignition switch, I can hear the Sniper relay click but the fuel pump does not come on. Any suggestions? Have I wired something wrong?

Thanks

Questions:

1. Is the inertia plunger set?
2. Do you have continuity across the two leads of the switch?
3. Where (what) ground did you wire the switch into?
4. Are you using the Ron Francis fuel pump relay at all?

just curious, why did you decide to disconnect the inertia switch from the fuel pump relay? it's really a safety feature so that your fuel pump doesn't continue to dump fuel in the event of a crash.

I disconnected the inertia switch from the Ron Francis relay because I have a Sniper that has it's own relay wired directly to the fuel pump. I am trying to use the inertia switch for the safety factor that you pointed out, but it has to be wired into the Sniper fuel pump circuit. What I think I need to do is run the fuel pump ground wire all the way to the inertia switch and wire it in there. At the end of the day, the inertia switch is just a switch that will break the ground if disrupted or turned upside down.

Dave,

I checked the plunger and it is set, however, I did not check the switch continuity. Will do that today.

I have a BPE 347 with a Sniper EFI which, as you already know, has it's own relay and power supply to the in-tank pump. I was planning to bring the fuel pump ground wire directly from the fuel pump all the way to the cockpit and take it through the inertia switch. This will take the inertia switch completely out of the RF harness so I will probably remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse panel. All that said, should I just run the one ground wire from the pump up through the inertia switch? Thanks for your help and patience as I am a little "wiring challenged".

You're on the right track. Be sure that you have a complete ground for the fuel pump. Start with the ground wire at the fuel pump and run that wire to the inertia switch. Then run from the other side of the switch to a good ground on the chassis.

Thanks Dave! Your instructions made me realize now I what I did wrong and it will be an easy fix without the need for undoing everything from the back to the front!
