View Full Version : wilwood brake pedal spacer options?

looking at my footbox, my brake pedal is the lowest pedal by 3" as compared to the clutch, and the coyote pedal is about 1" behind the clutch, which means the gas pedal is about 2" closer than the brake

the accelerator can't be adjusted
the wilwood brake pedal is connected to the whitby power brakes
the clutch pedal I can play with a little bit, but waiting to see how the clutch engages once I get the engine running again

thoughts on spacers or other ideas? or is this normal? seems I could accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes with this distance difference

Longer pushrod for the brakes? Or adjust the clutch pedal push rod. Did you trim the pushrod on the master as described in the manual?

I know Mike Forte makes a spacer for his "AC" pedals. I am using a spacer for the clutch and brake. You could use the spacer just for the brake.

You brake pedal should be closer to you than your gas pedal for safety reasons.

Longer pushrod for the brakes? Or adjust the clutch pedal push rod. Did you trim the pushrod on the master as described in the manual?

not sure how to add a longer pushrod on the brakes, would that require removing the booster?

yes I trimmed the pushrod on the master, and measured for adequate clearance (cannot remember the exact measurement)

yep you raised this the other day when you stopped by, wanted to measure things a bit, I can see the safety aspect for sure

do those spacers work on the wilwood pedals?

Hopefully Whitby has a solution for you. With the Wilwood pedal box you would just screw the pushrod out to bring the pedal up, not sure what can be done with Whitby PBs but I would sure hope they have adjustability. That kind of mismatch between gas and brake would make heel-toe basically impossible and really hurt the driving experience, other than the obvious safety issue.

played with this a bit between calls ;)

I adjusted the clutch almost as far as I could get it

if I reach into the pedalbox and pull out the brake pedal, there's a distinctive disconnect and the pedal comes up to level

in this scenario all 3 pedals are pretty much dead even now
hard to tell in the photo, but all 3 pedals are not equal and touching the ruler

I'll have to see if I can get a longer pushrod into the vacuum booster, or adjustable? anyone know offhand of one that would work?

Can you make your own pushrod using a bolt with the head cut off? That's what I did after cutting the original push rod for my clutch slave cylinder too short.

it's not the pushrod to the master cylinder, it's the rod to the pedal that needs to be longer (see red section below)

This is what I did. I put spacers behind the pedal using small pieces of SS tubing and longer screws. You can lengthen the push rods but you have to do both equally and if you run out of space then this was my solution

You can make the spacers as long as you wanted.
