View Full Version : Hopefully my last project for a while
So, after getting the transmission rebuilt, and installing the E-Stopp emergency brake, I tackled my last project for now. I wanted door cards with pockets to store stuff when needed. I would have purchased them from Herb, but unfortunately, I kind of went over budget on the other items. I had also made a new tunnel cover to fit over the carpet and eliminate the hand brake and some seat heater switches, so I had a bunch of left over vinyl from that. So I took the vinyl and 1/8" foam and designed a door card that would fit my Mr. Bruce 289 FIA doors, got on the internet and got busy. The results were not perfect, but better than I expected.

Just got them installed and I'm happy with them. Hopefully the velcro holds them in place.

Looks nice. Put some self tapping screws inside the pocket for a more secure attachment
Thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately, I don't think I have enough space between the inner and outer liners to put a screw into the inner liner and not damage the outer. I'll give the velcro a try, and then do something different if it doesn't hold. A group of us are driving to the get together at Alice's on Saturday, about 60 miles one way. It'll be the longest drive I've taken the car on so far. If they fall off, I'll just pile them up in the passenger seat!

I ended up w/ 2 screws plus all the velcro. The velcro glue seemed to fail when in the sun for several hours. I used black screws w. black finishing washers like these.

Just 2 screws. One front and one rear anywhere above 1/2 way up. As long as gravity can't make it slide downward, the velcro does fine. You may be able to hide them just under the edge of the elastic pocket. BTW, your fab skills are really, really high end. The card is beautiful.
Thanks Craig. If I turned it over, it would give away the fact that I have a long way to go before I'm ready for prime time. Honestly, I don't know how Herb is able to do them for the price that he charges! As far as the idea of screws, I'll have to take a look again to see if it's possible, but I don't think that there is enough space between the inner and outer door skins to do that. I might check with Mr. Bruce to see if he thinks that there is enough space between them.

I agree -- looks great! It is really inspirational to see such craftsmanship on this forum :)

Very nice work! If the velcro doesn't hold, try 3M dual-lock. It's basically velcro on steroids. This one has VHB tape adhesive backing. A couple long strips of this, and those door cards will not go anywhere.

Thanks Craig C.
John, I was going to order some more of this. I have used it to hold down the tunnel cover, but I tend to get ahead of myself and get impatient, so I go with what's locally available. If what I got doesn't work, and I can't use a couple of screws, this is going to be my next move.
Thanks for all the compliments guys.
