Front UCA Orientation

Folks,

I posted this picture on my build thread and did not seem to get any response, so I am posting here to maybe get some more eyes on the post.

As I waited for help to get the body off the frame and put on my elevated platform, I decided to look at the UCA and at least do some dry fitting and setup. I reversed the outboard fittings for the balljoint holders. Please let me know if I set the UCAs up right.

Left Side =DS; Right Side = PS; Top/Up = FWD

I have not done the rough alignment yet and cut the rear leg yet as I want to ensure the UCA orientation is correct. The Mevotech ball joints seemed to spin in fairly easily by hand, so I removed them until ready for install.

That is correct as long as....

For the coupe at least, the left side has the solid side of the ball joint in the front, right side has it in the back. I don’t know if that’s somehow different for the roadster. In my manual it’s on the page with the rough alignment specs.

Can't tell from your overhead photo but as Craig said, the ball joint plate needs to be oriented so that the joint angles outward. As you move ahead to the spindles be sure that you assemble them so the bolt on steering arm angles outward and has the wide end of the tapered hole pointing down.

You will want to trim off the rear adjuster arms and bolts for the power steering.183907183908

The ball joint pointing down is key. If you’re doing power steering, trim the adjusters and bolts for the rear. I took 1/4 off both sides. Then use the measurements in the book to adjust and get in the ball park. That should get u there.
