To those of you who have installed Max-Jax for work with your Cobras - how far apart (drive through width) have you set your posts? I am installing mine in a two car garage and am trying to keep things somewhat tight so I can continue to park the second car in the space even with the lift being used. At the moment I have a drive through width of 88.5 inches with inner plate to inner plate of 93 inches. Just wanted to see if people are placing their posts closer together to make sure there is room to reach those 4" frame tubes.
Second, I was considering purchasing the vertical standoffs and wasn't sure what size to purchase - are the 4" standoffs needed or will the smaller sizes work better?
Any information much appreciated.

I just checked the layout drawing I did 5 years ago. From the front of each post base to the other, I went 92" post to post. From the backside of the post, post to post is 120". This spacing is what MaxJax consider the high side for a midsize car. Now I am not using the MaxJax for the MK4 as I sold mine in 2018. I am using the MaxJax for the restoration of my 70 Mach 1 Mustang. I find the spacing is adequate for the car, but wider would be better with respect to opening the doors to gain easier access to the interior.
As I recall, in the MaxJax manual they have recommendations for spacing for cars of differing size. The MK4 is small and narrow and the frame rails are set in compared to the body width.
The best accessory I bought were screw type adjustable height round pads. The adjustable pads allow you to level the car, important when doing restoration work.
I bought the frame cradles, but didn't use them like I thought I would. With respect to the MK4 and the round tube frame, now that I weld I would probably take sections of 5" tubing and make my own frame cradles that would not slip off the frame.
I used a simple 2D layout tool, I suggest you do something similar so that you can evaluate different layouts.

Yes, this is what I found too. I've been trying to map out the "lift dimensions" for various cars I expect (and hope) to have on it and there is certainly some serious variance there (especially with how narrow the Cobra is. What I ended up going with is shown below - a "two position" system where my outside post stays stationary and my inside post has two positions that I can potentially use dependent on the car to be lifted. I figure a narrow position to accommodate the Cobra and then a Max-width position to accommodate more standard sized vehicles for hopeful future builds.

I just picked up a set of MAXJAX and I am trying to figure out the best width to set the post (Inside Base to Inside Base). I am really only planning on using these for my FFR MK4. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Mine are 103" apart from inside of post , not arms. I have had 1/2 ton pickups and cobra with no issues. 212936 212937 212938 212939

I remeasured . Mine are 96 1/2 from inside base plate. 213751 213752

That more-or-less jives with mine as well. Mine are 93 1/4" measured between the inner edges of the two base plates.

I would have to measure where mine are at but I can also tell you I do not pick it up on the round tubes.
I pick up from the square tubes front and rear of your feet and seat.
