I recently installed my BPE347 and am in the process of connecting the various wires and sensors. I could not identify a place for the oil temperature sensor and called BPE for their recommendation. They recommend to use an oil pressure extension tube with the additional oil temperature port incorporated into the side. I am concerned there will be insufficient fluid flow from this configuration for the oil temperature. Am I overthinking this, as this will only be for street use and no plans for a track, or would a sandwich adapter between the block and the oil filter for both temperature and pressure be a better option?

That's an o.k. spot. I use the oil pan for mine. If you use a remote O/F, you can plumb it in there as well.

The oil pressure port is deadheaded with no flow so it won’t be accurate. Best is in the flow to/from the filter or in the sump.

OK, to close this out, in lieu of welding a port into the oil pan, the preferred option would be to use an oil filter sandwich like (https://www.amazon.com/GlowShift-Oil-Filter-Sandwich-Adapter/dp/B001PLNDF2?ref_=ast_sto_dp), as opposed to the sender extension (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sdk-c2oz9b339dp). Just need to verify sufficient clearance with headers and other bits.

My 427 from BPE has a Plug in the oil pan just below the location of the oil filter that I will be using for my oil temp, surprised there is not one on your oil pan.

Not the easiest or cheapest way, but in the pan is the best place to get an accurate reading. JMO

My vote is in the pan, it's the oil that is closest to the engine operation. But it's not the easiest to make work if the fitting needs to be installed.

The only ports in the oil pan are for the dipstick and drain. I could use the drain port, but the sensor would be rather unprotected from debris under the car, and I am concerned it would get damaged there.

The temperature (among other things) affects how the oil will perform. Therefore I like to locate the sensor in a location where the oil is headed back into the engine. For example a sandwich plate or remote oil filter(s). My dual oil filter fixture had unused ports that were screaming for a purpose. Now at least one of them has a purpose. Previously I had an oil temp sensor installed in the oil pan. The temperature would swing really low at 65+ cruising speeds. I'm guessing air movement across the oil pan would significantly cool the oil sitting (splashing) in the pan. However the temperature readings from the port near the filters doesn't swing nearly as much. The oil leaving the filters is the oil doing the heavy lifting. It's good to know the condition of your team before heading into the game.183453

Is the data collected just that or do you have a method of controlling the temperature of the oil if you determine it to be too hot? What is your target temp?

I think I have decided on a sandwich adapter for the filter, it has four npt ports and should provide access to fluid with constant flow. anyone with experience going this route. specifically, any interference issues with the long headers for a 302 block? Still waiting on the Gasn headers, otherwise would just check myself.

The sandwich will work fine. Mine started at the pressure sender thing but moved later to the pan. It made a world of difference in what I saw on the gauge. It was very obvious that the sender extension is not a good spot.

There would be no issues with FFR long headers. Someone posted recently about filter interference with Gas N and wasn't even using a sandwich.

Jeff, thanks for the link. I think mladen was using a 351W based 427. I have a 302 based 347 which already has a short oil filter.
