Well, I thought it was about time to drop the motor in today. Got a little help from my sons (14 & 11). Learned some things, cussed a little, but she's in. Please don't tell me it's backwards:)
Used a 2 ton hoist from Summit at the recommendation from BPE saying the smaller hoists sometimes don't reach deep enough. Also used an leveler from Summit which was great.
Here's Ben pre-install:
183182
Learnings:
1) The supplied FFR bolts for the motor mounts (at least I think that's what they were for) were too long and bottomed out. I used the ones that held my motor to the shipping crate that BPE had installed. I figured no issue as they were appropriate length and Grade 8 vs the Grade 5 FFR supplied.
2) The battery strap terminal end was a smidge too small for the bolts and required a touch of work with the file.
3) No need to elevate the rear of the car with the leveler I used.
4) Tranny support was in place pre-install.
5) We learned that the lower arms of the hoist contacted the front sways...had to use a small jack at the front cross-member to get the arms by.
5) The hoist was touching the front of the cars frame and we needed to just push the motor back a few mm to get the motor mount seated
6) the hardest part was that the passenger motor mount stud went in, but the engine was canted to the passenger side, which left the drivers at a bad angle. Had to have my 14 yr old pull up on the passengers mount to improve the angle while I simultaneously pushed the motor toward the passenger side with my right hand and lower the engine with my left.
Nice to see that the wires will reach nicely.
Would have been easier with more hands, but it was fun to troubleshoot with the boys and get'r done.
Will clean up tomorrow.
