Like some here, I am using the standard 65 Mustang ignition switch and will be using the Scott Drake 3 wire pigtail with it. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or description on how to wire that into the Ron Francis wiring harness? Is the stud on the ignition switch ground or accessory? There are 3 wires on the pigtail: yellow, red with green stripe and red with blue stripe.

There are 6 wires in the Ron Francis harness:
1. Large red
2. Small red
3. Blue
4. Brown - I will not be using as I have a one wire alternator
5. Orange
6. Large black?

Wiring is not something I am real good at so any help is appreciated. As always, thanks in advance!

see TedG's build here - should be similar to your setup

Well, I wired it all up the way TegG's post indicated but heard a loud pop when I turned the 65 Mustang ignition switch "on". Luckily I had nothing critical hooked up (Sniper, gauges, etc.) and no fuses were blown, so I don't know what the noise was. I took all the wires off the solenoid and there are no signs of arcing and I never smelled anything that indicated melting or burning. I have 4 wires crammed onto the solenoid stud:

1. Large cable directly from battery +
2. Ignition switch
3. Alternator
4. Wire to power distribution block behind firewall

The small blue wire was on the small terminal for starting

I saw another post on the other forum that had the picture attached, which shows what I think is a different wiring than TedG. Please take a look and let me know your thoughts.

Which route did you end up going with this? I have the same switch.... Don't really want to add the extra relays unless I have to.

Thought I would re-ask this question differently. I used a multimeter to see which contacts connected at which key positions and then came up with how I think it should be wired without relays like in the TedG Build.

dbo_Texas and I exchanged a couple of emails and I think it's inline with what he did, the only difference is I'm not going to use the 65 harness and instead use female blade connectors directly with the switch.

So my question to everyone is does this look like the correct wiring or am I off?

Also sorry for the quality of the diagram

Thanks for posting this diagram. I still haven't finished wiring mine up, but your descriptions for each terminal seems to align w/ the diagram in the Painless Wiring Harness for the 65 ignition switch. I may go the same route as you and NOT use the pigtail, but instead just hook up female blade connectors directly to the switch which eliminates my original concern w/ the smaller wire gauge on the pigtail connector.

I'm watching this thread because I also plan to use a 65 Mustang switch.

I have a related question, Does the FFR harness have resistor wire for the ignition or does FFR supply a ballast resistor??

Not sure about the resistor wire question or ballast resistor (I've not seen that mentioned before). I was able to verify mrglaeser's pinout diagram above and everything functions as he describes. I'm going to also ditch the pigtail and replace the FFR harness ring lugs w/ female spade connectors and plug those directly into the back of the switch. The only one I will leave allong is the BRN-ACC FEED-IGN SW because that goes to a threaded stud on the back of the ignition, not a spade connection.

For anyone still planning to use the pigtail, the wire colors on my pigtail are as follows (numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 refer to mrglaesar's diagram 3 posts up) - note that pigtails have different colors depending on where you source it, so just double check yours:
1 - Batter Feed (in) - yellow pigtail (FFR harness RED-IGN SW-->SOL and RED-HDLT SW 1 FEED)
2 - Start (out) - blue/red pigtail (FFR harness LT BLU-EFI CRANK POWER and LT BLU-IGN SW-->NS SW)
3 - Ignition On/Run (out) - orange/green pigtail wire (FFR harness ORG-IGN FEED->IGN SW)
4 - Acc Feed (out) - no pigtail connection (FFR harness BRN-ACC FEED-->IGN SW and BRN-ALTERNATOR IGN)
