I am using the TKX and Ultra Light gauges. FFR included a speedometer adapter to go in the transmission which there is a port that is plugged off it looks like it will fit. On the opposite side is one already installed from Tremec. I pulled it out and it looks like a Hall-Effect type gear and pick up.

So I guess the question is since I haven’t found anyone else ask is which one works? Just have to open the loom and move the wiring or install the FFR provided one?

Thanks

The plugged off port is for a mechanical connection (gear drive), or my plan is to install a mechanical/3-wire sensor from modern drive line that plugs in with a drive gear and converts that to Hall effect sensor.. The installed one is a I believe 2 wire VSS signal that can be used by some speedometers. There is some info on the web, Tremec has a data sheet that talks a little about it at the web site. Hall effect has 3 wires (Source voltage, ground, signal)

F500guy is 100% correct. For you Autometer gauges, you can use the built-in VSS and leave the cover on the externally mounted sensor. As he said, the internal sensor isn't a hall effect style sensor. It's a 2-wire variable reluctance sensor that works fine with your Autometer speedo. You just have to calibrate your speedo per their directions, which would be the case with any similar sensor.

Thanks for the responses. I did do a deep dive into it last night and from the wiring schematics provided with the gauge and other online sources it is pretty much plug and play. Just have to do the calibration. Does look like the harness will have to be opened and the wiring moved just a little to make the connection.

Edwardb I'm just starting my dash wiring using the RF 2 wire plugged into my tkx for speedo. It was a Dark green speedo signal and Grey speedo signal return wires.

On the autometer ultra light gage it has 2 signal tabs, 1 lamp tab, 1 ground tab and 1 out tab.

I'm thinking dark green speedo signal goes to 1 signal tab and the Grey speedo signal return goes to a ground tab on speedometer or something else?

Hopefully I provided enough information..

The one installation I did with the Autometer gauges was in my truck build with an automatic trans. The speed signal is coming from the transmission controller, which I have on the "IN" connection on the Autometer gauge. But my setup also requires an "OUT" connection for the engine controller. So used that too. Not the same as the VSS on your TKX. So can't cite direct experience. What I can offer though is the two wires from the TKX VSS are high signal and low signal. Typical for non-GPS speedos is green wire to the "IN" connection on the speedo and grey to ground. Hopefully that's the case for yours.
