Saw this article on Top Gear's website and I thought of the 818.
two seat roadster
700kgs
tubular frame
2.5l turbo Audi engine producing 350-400hp
At almost $200K I'll gladly build a 818 for $15K and just deal with the extra 118kgs. It will look better too!

I saw a little blurb about this on Jalopnik this morning. Way too expensive for my taste, but I've always enjoyed the Lotus 7 style cars myself, even though I'm a coupe person. I wonder if Dave has ever thought about a Caterham style kit?

If you do a search for th Donkervoort D8 GT, you can get some really good views. Also do a search for the Donkervoort RS06 full fendered racecar.

I wish FFR would do a Super Seven myself. All the ones that are really well made and sold here in the U.S. are way too expensive and the ones that are made here in a kit form are not really that good. Would be nice to have one made by FFR with their great chassis design that Jim does and sold for a decent price.

I've always liked the look of the D8 GT. Just could never afford one. It always seemed to me that someone took a Seven and made it into a coupe... :)

Pretty much what they did, but with more modern lines. I really love the D8 GT. I don't think they sell in the USA at all, and even if they did I bet the price would be a major ouch!!!....

I agree completely. I looked at the Brunton V6 Stalker (I think it was called that) for a while. The info just wasn't put forth very well from the builders, and from what I could see, I didn't like the looks of the frame. The finished product looked good on their site, but I wasn't sure how much fudging they had done on the car... I liked the dimensions of the car and everything, just wasn't impressed by the company like I am with FFR. I'd absolutely LOVE if they did a coupe version of a Seven (see post above, or my thread titled "Coupe?" if you want to see my unhealthy obsessions with anything coupe :) ) but I'm guessing they're a long way from starting another model since they're in the midst of the 818. I always figured it was the next one from FFR (a Seven replica, that is) since the Roadster and Daytona Coupe were reproductions of classics. Maybe in time.... :)

Yeah... I can't see myself ever spending that kind of money on a car... But I can always hope for Dave to push back any social life he has to design another affordable kit for me... haha!

GPZ10, The Brunton Stalker is still called that, but the orig. owner sold the company, if I remember right to somebody he knew well. Maybe one of these days I drive over to St. Pete, since it's only about a hour drive from orlando.
From what I have seen online, not that impressed with it.

Agreed. The only kit I would build would be Caterham's, and for the price they're asking, I just don't think it worth it. That's just me, of course. I've got a soft spot for Sevens, even though I generally hate roadsters. I think it's just the legend of Sevens. So much history. Not the the Cobra doesn't have history, I just don't think I'd like one. But something like the D8 GT in kit form? Sign me up... I don't know what it is about it, but I love it. It just screams German car to me for some reason, as in function over form, and I love it.

Here is one Super Seven I like a lot that you can get in the USA from Flying Miata, which is a dealer for the Westfield Super Seven. There is a price configurator as well.
Not sure if I can post links to other manufacturer or not, but will try, if not David H. will take it out.

another one is the MK Super Seven which has a dealer here in FL.

Well, either way I got the links. :-P I would just really love to see a coupe version of the Seven somewhere for building. It seems almost all kit cars are roadsters, but maybe that's what everyone wants... Really makes me want to start a company in the next few years... :)

Westfield builds an excellent Seven kit for considerably less money than the Caterham.

I don't feel TOO BAD about posting this since currently they don't really compete directly with FFR.

Only thing I don't care for about the 7's is that flat back.

I feel the same way, I am more of coupe person, even here in FL, I think some people who don't live here don't know just how much it rains in the summer months and witout warning.
I was thinking if I ever won the lottery .....lol, I would start a company or just go to FFR with a design and say here some money make it happen......lol

The strange part is, until recently, even the major car manufacturers were doing it. It seems like they all thought, "Someone wants a small nimble sports car? They probably want a convertible too!!" There was a coupe miata variant in Japan, or at least a concept that I've seen pictures of... Never came here. and it goes on and on. I'm just griping and whining and letting my only child upbringing come out a bit, but you get my drift. :)

There is a TV series on the building of the Westfield SEi (the legal name of the westfield seven) Called a Racing Car is Born presented by Mark Evans.
In the 23 second look I had time for I didn't find a 'free' link to download the show.

I think what happened is the marketing departments got ahold of the products the engineering departments had already worked on... I'm an Elec. Engineering student, and the jobs I have held, and will hold this May when I graduate hopefully fall in line with it every time it seems.... Engineering turns out a quality product, and then marketing ruins it... When I watched all the Dilbert cartoons, I laughed and got mad at the same time, because it's funny, yet angering... :) If you haven't seen the Dilbert cartoons, I suggest buying them.... or torrenting them, as I did. ;) They're good for a laugh, especially if you've done any engineering work. I'm pretty sure Bob Lutz' book:
http://www.amazon.com/Car-Guys-vs-Bean-Counters/dp/1591844002
Cover about the same kind of topic, haven't read it yet but plan to... In fact, I may just go try and find a torrent of it right now... :) haha
