In just a couple of days I'll be joining a friend to do an epic 5,000 mile drive across the country and back from south-central PA to the Golden Gate Bridge! I'll be making the trip in my Gen 2 Type 65 Coupe, an eight year build that's been heavily modified for road trip action. This will not be a Cannonball style drive. Rather a cruise including many segments of the Lincoln Highway, America's first coast to coast roadway!

A bit of the back story. Several years ago I joined up with Rally North America and participated in many of their events to support various charities. This inspired a love for long-distance road trips on the backroads of our beautiful country. In 2021 I teamed up with one of the founders of the organization to attempt a coast-to-coast cruise of the Lincoln Highway. He drove his 1970 Mach I. Since my Coupe wasn't quite ready I accompanied him in my 2006 Mustang. But before we reached Oklahoma we had to terminate the trip due to west coast forest fires and worn out rear axle bearings in the '70.

We were determined to finish the trip. But this time we are both leaving our Mustangs at home in PA. He acquired a 1977 Ford Maverick for the trip and I will be accompanying him in my Gen 2 Type 65 Coupe. Yeah, this is a little bit crazy, right? But it's a challenge that we are both working toward. Take a look at his You Tube channel "Tony's Fords and Mustangs" for details on his Maverick and lots of other things Ford. For the particulars on my Coupe see my build thread "Building Coupe 674" on the other forum.

I'll be posting up pictures on my Facebook page "Team Limer" and will follow up here as I am able.

Wish us luck!

P.S. to my friends in the San Francisco area. When I visited in 2019 with my Mustang I told you I'd be back with my Coupe. As near as I can tell we should be at the Western Terminus of the Lincoln Highway next Wednesday or thereabouts. It would be cool to meet up with some of the Bay Area Daytona Association (BADAss) again! Sad that Russ can't be there.

Way cool! Hope all goes well.

I've done a few long distance runs myself. About as close to being a cowboy as you'll get.

Gbeck, I would leave to meet you and could probably have two coupes on Wednesday afternoon.
Maybe an early dinner at Alices restaurant on skyline blvd. Its a great place about 20 miles south of the golden gate bridge.

RSNAKE, Alice’s sounds like a great idea! It’s really close to the route we were thinking about.

Funny that the first thing that came to mind was a post by Chris Bergquist with a picture of his Coupe in front of the place.

I can’t wait to meet all who show up. We will definitely try to make Wednesday work!

684 miles today! It was a little long but the car performed very well!

Sounds like a great trip. Having done several coast to coast trips I wish I was there! Did my first in a dune buggy I built while in High School. Drove across in 1970. Not sure my old body would let me do that now a days! Good luck!

In a DUNE BUGGY!? Wow! That's more than I would ever try!

I always look forward to getting west!

As our trip is shaping up it looks like Wednesday will work out fine. But it would help us a lot if we could start maybe an hour earlier.

You name the time as you have farther to drive:). 3:30-4:00 works for me as well.

The road trip is done! It was a 5,965 mile journey along major sections of the old Lincoln Highway from my home near Hershey PA all the way to its western terminus in San Francisco’s Lincoln Park. The Daytona performed flawlessly, undaunted by the blizzard conditions at Donner Pass, overnight snow in Winnemucca NV and several high speed jaunts on US-50 in the Nevada desert.
I’ll be doing a commented photo album of the trip soon, and my partner will be doing a YouTube video. I’ll
Post up links in ths thread.

Meanwhile you might enjoy RSnake’s video here https://youtu.be/TRFjytcMlcQ and have a look at my posts on my Facebook page “Team Limer”.
