A few random questions.

The front hub. Should the backside be painted or maybe poly?

182739

Anyone know what these bolts are for? They seem to be left over from the front suspension.

182740

I received my IRS Diff from FFR. I am thinking to simply poly it as is. I kinda like the look from the factory. That ok?

I plan top build a little stand to hold it as it shipped and paint it. I hear if it is stored any other way then it gets stinky.

Thx. Tom

1. Your choice. Really not visible in the complete car. I painted mine with POR15 just because that's what I do. But I'm the only one who knows.

2. Don't recognize them. The part number on the bag is what they came in? If so, should be on your inventory list with maybe a hint of what they're for.

3. The newest versions have some kind of coating and really no reason to do anything else. Before (the two I've built) the iron cases were unfinished and turned rust orange in no time. Used POR15 on those too. But unless you don't like black, I'd leave that one alone.

4. The smell is from the friction modifier added to the gear lube. Yes, it smells pretty bad. Keep the temporary caps on the CV axle openings until you're ready to put the axles in and you'll be OK.

2) The bolts may go to the mounts and Wilwood Calipers. My experience is that these are 3/8-24. Just a guess.
3) I painted my aluminum IRS housing with a high temp clear.

The Edward and Jim. I will clear it all.

One more item. I am thinking to paint the calipers. Anyone use a specific paint or paint kit?

The bolts are for the caliper brackets. I concur with Paul on #1, 3 and 4.

Cheers,
Jeff

I powder coated my brakes and they came out well (my teenage boys insisted on red calipers). You do need to completely disassemble the calipers to powder coat them, but the coating is very durable and holds up even if they get brake fluid on them. Learning how to powder coat was fun and has been very useful.

I used POR15 on most of my suspension parts.

I had those same bolts that went into my left over box.

That is a slick looking config. Nicely done.

There isn't much doubt that powder coat is better than paint but going in an oven means no rubber will survive so you have to disassemble calipers. You might want to look into specific caliper
or high temp paint. That way you do it all yourself and no need to try to do batches for a better price.

I do like the outcome of Scott's stuff. It looks nice. I will poly most of the stuff that is already painted. The calipers are different. I am looking for caliper paint. If anyone has used any specific product, please let me know. I appreciate it.

I used VHT Caliper paint. Works pretty well (not as good as PC and brake fluid will attack it). I picked it up @ O'Reilys.

WOW! some beautiful work there, gents! I am starting on the IRS on mine. Seems I have a bag of unlabeled bolts. I suspect I know where they are going now...

Cerakote has some high temp air-cure ("C"-Series) products that will work, but colors and finishes are limited. I've used a lot of it and never had an issue. Just make sure to prep properly.

I use POR15 caliper paint. Holds up really well, used the stuff on my jeeps I used to off road so was an easy decision. I will say the color options are limited. But the stuff doesn't flake or come off at all.
