View Full Version : Russ Thompson is in the hospital
Real Time

Hi all,
I've been trying to call Russ Thompson for a drop trunk with no response.
I tried one more time and is wife picked up. I spoke with her and her son. Both seem like wonderful people.
They informed me that Russ is in the hospital. He had a stroke and is in critical condition.
I've only read good things about him on this forum so I asked them if it would be okay to put up this post.
They seemed appreciative that I would.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I thought the forum members would want to know.

So sorry to hear the news. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Really sorry to hear this. You will not meet a greater guy. I actually got a tour of his shop setup a few years ago. Picked up my turn signal and throttle pedal. I pray that his condition improves.

I’m so sorry to hear this. This is a tough recovery. Russ is a great guy. I enjoyed doing business with him, and we spoke of him coming to visit to see my car because he used to live in my area. I will pray for you and your family, Russ.

Prayers for him and his family. I’m sure his products are in a majority of cobras built (gas pedal, drop trunk, turn signal). Amazing how one person has been able to impact so many in our little corner of the world.

I've spoken with him several times back when I bought his turn signal switch. Definitely a real good guy that seemed he would give you the shirt off his back to help you.
This pretty much sucks to read this. Thanks for letting everyone know.
Sending positive vibes your way Russ!
Wishing Russ and his family a speedy and full recovery. Russ does so much for our hobby.

This is indeed sad news. I spoke with Russ a few times to organise a couple of his indicator switches to be shipped to me in Australia. Nothing was too much trouble. He even organised and shipped some parts from other supporting vendors in the same shipment to save me money on freight. It was his suggestion and clearly demonstrated what a top shelf kind of fellow he is.
For us in Australia, Russ's turn signal switch is a must have. It is a department requirement for registration that indicators must be self cancelling. His solution is both functional and a beaut industrial design.
George, thanks for posting and speaking on behalf of the forum, I am sure it wasn't the conversation you were expecting.
Hopefully our well wishes and prayers will help Russ and his family with recovery.

Oh man that is terrible. Every time I ever talked to him he would start asking me about my build and then we would spend 15+ minutes just talking about all kinds of stuff. I really enjoyed talking with him. I hope like everyone else he pulls through. Class act all the way.

Got to meet him last year when he brought my parts to me and meet up with several cobra friends. I really enjoyed talking to him great guy. Hope you get well soon Russ.
Sad news, but there have been a lot of advancements in treating stroke patients over the past 20 - 30 years. The sooner it was caught, the better. He was very helpful (and patient) with me has I worked through my first roadster build, using one his turn signals set-ups.

Oh damn. That makes me very sad. From all accounts he was universally liked and a benevolent legend here. Maybe someone that knows his family can suggest a way to share our appreciation for his work.

Let me tell you about how great a guy Russ was: about 25-26 years ago in the early FFR days I bought kit #100 and shortly thereafter I flew to Odessa, in the Ukraine and met my wife. She then arrived in New Hampshire and shortly after that my sister in Berkley California wanted to meet her so Speaking little English, with me not being able to go, she flew out to spend a week with my sister. Upon arriving to my sister's house, she found a note saying, "I had to leave for a while, I'll be back this evening". My wife was so scared and called me not knowing what to do or where to go. I knew Russ lived nearby and had talked with him and I think met him before this moment with us both being of the early stage 1 Daytona coupes gang, so I called him. He was so nice that he drove to my sister's house, introduced himself to my wife Tatiana, and then not only took her out to lunch but also gave her a tour of the area keeping her busy till my sister arrived home. When the picture of Russ that FFR posted a little earlier I showed my wife and she immediately said "PLEASE DON"T TELL ME!" This by far one of, if not THE worst part of getting old. What a GREAT guy!
