View Full Version : Parking brake spring hitting coil springs (3-link)

I noticed my rear brakes started leaking brake fluid pretty bad when I pulled my parking brake. The leak is in the seal where the return spring is for the parking brake. I also notice that the coil springs and the parking brake spring are touching. I imagine every bump in the road is causing rapid and unusual wear. For now I'm installing a new set of brakes that do not have a parking brake option. My rear end (3-link) is from a 2000 Mustang GT. Curious if any others have already solved this and if so how?

Yes, likewise. My Ford 8.8 is from a 95 Mustang GT and the parking brake spring is at least a foot away from the shock coil spring.

Is this a MK4? If so the caliper should be toward the front of the car not the rear. Just not sure if previous generations had it different or not.

Swap the calipers to the front of the axle and problem is cured.

Just remember that when you do so you need to change everything side to side; calipers, caliper mounts and brackets and if so equipped also the anti-moan brackets.

This is the way. :-)
Thanks, this is exactly what I did. All set. Car stops again and parking brake working like a champ.

Do I gotta pull my axles if I wanna swap things around? From looking things over on mine, I think I do.

Yes. I had to. The brake brackets wouldn't come off without pulling the axles. Turned a 1 evening brake job into a 3 day endeavor!

depends on your set up. the newer FFR brackets are "C" shaped and can come off without removing the axles.

Crap, OEM 8.8 bits, full circle.
The wife would tan my hide if I opened that differential again so they're staying where they are.

Can your shocks be turned body down? I have no interference issues with my Koni shocks mounted body down. I am running a four link setup but, that doesn’t change the position of the shock mount or brake caliper.
