My name is Mike Kirk. I am still in the decision stage of pulling the trigger on the 33' build. I wrapped my Roush 427R Mustang around a t-pole in October destroying the body. The entire drive-train is intact. I only have 12,000 miles on the car so everything that survived is in premium shape. So I am looking for a home for the drive-train and the 33' seemed like a perfect fit. I have never built a car and was not very interested in doing so until this opportunity availed itself. I live in California and am curious about registering the car. How difficult is it to register as a 33'? My motor is the 4.6 liter with the Roush Supercharger. I'm currently running around 500HP. Do I need the taller hood to accommodate the charger? I installed headers, cats, and X-pipe to the Mustang. Will any of these work in the 33' chassis? I'm looking for some encouragement on whether this is a good idea or not. I would really like to talk to someone about the build process. Many more questions to follow. I plan on being a pest if I proceed with this project. I've always been steered away from building a car due to all the horror stories. Look forward to the replies.

Hi Mike!

What year mustang is your donor? Our kits are designed for 2 valve and 4 valve 4.6 engines. The 3 valve (05-11 mustang engines) require some fabrication to use. The transmission for the 05 and newer model mustangs will also have to be switched out with an after market Tremec transmission. The yoke on the back of the trans changed in 05. The 05 and newer rear ends also cannot be used.

Alot depends on what year Mustang you have.

It's an 07. I was told differently by Rick in sales. Mine is the 3 valve, etc.

Hi Mike,

I was talking to the guys here, and while the transmission wouldn't necessarily be a direct bolt-in (especially with respect to the driveshaft), it does appear that it would fit. It's true that the rear end is different, keeping it from being a bolt-in, and in general I'd agree that the engine and transmission are the primary items you would consider using from your car.
For a '33, everything would be supplied except for the engine/trans, rear end w/rear brakes, and wheels/tires. If you've got the engine/trans covered, that's a significant portion of the parts required, and your wheels may also work out, depending on the width of the rear end you decide to use. It sounds like you've been working with Rick in the meantime, but let me know if you need anything else.

What is the problem with using my rear end? Should I just sell the one I have and buy something that bolts up? What about using an independent rear end for that car?
