Getting my Garage ready / trying to keep sane

It's a good thing I'm waiting on my Roadster kit. I still have a lot to do to get ready. However, I haven't made much progress...between the nasty weather, other distractions, and my day job, I finally got back out in my Garage for some sanity time :)

Here's the 1st drywall panel to finish the inside of my Garage...

Good that you're able to start making progress! You need to cut that panel so that the butt joint breaks on the joist and not in between.

Looks good. I know about getting a garage ready. I had a big mess to clean up and get some equipment in. Thought I’d be done by the time my 818 got here. I wasn’t. So now I’m working with barely enough room around the chassis and parts boxes stored in the small attic above the garage. It slows me down but I still plug away at it

I kinda knew what I signed up for...but the real surprise was how much I needed to pay attention to the "flatness" of my ceiling joists. I picked the worst ceiling area to start from -- the framing of the attic access (stairwell) looked like an afterthought...perhaps done by the prior homeowner. The strap hangers were not flush with the surrounding joists. I got some long shims and actually shaped the backside of the panels in some places, but overlooked one. Bummer!

Got the 1st course done...I'll have to pick up the pace for sure.

I hear you! I am waiting for June to arrive with my '33 Hot Rod kit. I do not have to prepare my garage, as it is already complete, so I have spent my winter building a motor, transmission, and rear axle, which are all ready to go. Cannot wait for that Stewart Transportation truck to arrive.

Hey Y'all,

It's been a while since I posted an update, but I have been busy -- especially now that my kit was delivered and I have to move everything around in my garage space to get things done. It's like a horizontal game of Tetris!

No one would be surprised for me to tell you that it takes longer than you 1st estimate -- no exception here with finishing drywall. However, I do have a new-found appreciation for those who enjoy "body work"....you know, the endless prep work and sanding...

What I found is that it is "honest" work. In other words, the quality of the job is directly proportional to the effort put into it. Yes, one can accumulate skill over time, and that makes the job more efficient...but still, you have to put the effort in to get the results -- there are no shortcuts or cheating to get a proper finish. It is actually a little therapeutic all told ;)
