kinda funny... kinda sad!
And to add "insult to injury", the tire comes back to kick the Soul in the ***... "take that!".
Honestly, I hope no one was ously injured.

saw this the other day. I had a few thoughts after watching.
#1 what luck to catch this on camera
#2 unbelievable that the driver walked away
#3 check your lug nut torque specs.

I frequently watch videos from a Youtube channel called "Just Rolled In", which gives me plenty of insight how a wheel can just fall off a truck like that.

I'm guessing he had wheel spacers on that truck!

Ya those are awesome and frightening. Youtube has shown me a lot of how I could die in a Cobra. 99% of my drives in the Cobra I stick to side road, fun twisty roads and avoid the freeways like the plague.
Likely the driver of the truck had been feeling the hub bearing going out for some time.
Even likely he took it in for repairs and declined the fix.
The result - catastrophic failure.

If you look closely at the wheel, after it hits the back of the car and is almost stopped, you can see the brake rotor is still attached to the wheel. So, it must have snapped an axle to have come off like that. Freaky stuff like that bums me out knowing that at any moment it could happen to you. I'm amazed the woman walked away.

Big tires and big negative offset wheels put a lot more stress on factory hubs, axles, brakes, etc.
Pretty amazing nobody was injured and that the pickup driver was able to keep control enough to get over without hitting anything.

I think the same every time I see a truck (or car) with huge wheel offset. Hub bearing life measure in the 10's of hours.

Ever since I moved to Floriduh that's been my mantra. It started with just my motorcycle, but now I almost exclusively stick to side and county roads to get around. Fortunately I can make this work since my job site visits are all over the county. I only get on the interstates when it's unavoidable.
Driving side roads just feels more calm to me.

If that guy brought his truck in for that and declined the repair, in Mass a mechanic can refuse to release his vehicle back to him for safety reasons. I've seen hub bearings wear out to almost that point. The loud growling noise should be a concern to anyone. They usually give a very noisy warning well before it gets to that point. Shame on the owner. I'm glad no one got hurt. I also travel on most non highway routes, I also like to avoid our turnpike because of tolls. That's why out west they call them "freeways".

Agreed. Vehicle inspections should be applied to more than DIY built vehicles. The Soul driver got lucky twice. The first hit was low and not through the windshield. The second hit was headed for the driver door but ultimately the Soul turned 90 degrees and took the hit at the rear. The driver's lack of injury is a testament to Kia engineering.

I'm surprised the whole law enforcement gang isn't jumping up and down saying the car owner was partly at fault due to the driver going faster than average traffic at the time.

That's a stretch. Look at the difference, mayyyyyybe a couple MPH faster than the truck.

I agree with you, but you should see how all i see here in ohio LEO media is (speed= evil)
Disclaimer: I am a former Law enforcement officer.
Another reason to have two roll bars, wear your 5 pt belts properly and avoid freeway driving. When I am in the Cobra I always bypass freeways whenever possible, nothing good seems to happen on them these days... rock chips, windshield damage, potholes, people driving way too fast, etc... I actually know someone who had a tire that came off a car from opposing side of the freeway bounce over the center divide and went through his windshield and hood. Amazingly he was not injured but his car was completely destroyed.
Crazy things happen, glad everyone was not injured.

Back in '06-'09, I traveled to northern Massachusetts about bi-weekly.
I noticed that Massachusetts has "turnpikes" are actually not toll roads. Ferexample, "Middlesex Turnpike" in Burlington runs parallel to US3, it is basically a regular street. It runs from I-95 on the south side to "B'ricca" on the north side.
Maybe it's the only one in the entire state, but I happened to find it and drive on it. :)

We also drive on parkways and park on driveways. It's amazing any of it makes sense...

Yes, but as long as he passed the smog test.....he's good.
I used to live in CA, you would not believe some of the cars I saw on the freeways doing 85mph with wheels about to fall off, bungee corded doors, etc. Several times there were cars that I got away from for safety.
Now I live in Florida. We ain't got none of them smog tests neither.
It is crazy that some states don't do basic road fitness inspections any longer.
Just Rolled in is very entertaining. But wow, it ruins your faith in humanity.
My thoughts as well were the nerve of that tire, after flipping the car, coming back to hit it one last time!
