View Full Version : Is there a nationwide shortage of Dart SHP SBF 427 blocks?

I just saw a post today about someone that waited a year for an engine from Blueprint, then was told unknown eta..... This is very concerning for me as I have a kit that will be ready 6/17 and expect to be ready to put an engine in by Oct-Nov. Just wondering what kind of luck people have had with getting 427 motors.

Check Dart, World Products and Ford for suitable blocks. I'm guessing that all are of very limited supply or as you've mentioned long lead times.
Then prices are running at current inflation ++.
Maybe a used 351w would make sense and then just wait for what you really want. Most of the accessories for the 351w will work with the BP 427.

Dart is still appox 16 weeks out on delivery.

Bill, I thought you had a local builder for your engine? There seem to be a few of the more expensive blocks available, Dart Iron Eagle, World products and of course aluminum blocks. Seems the budget SHP blocks are months out. I could build you one in your time frame if you don't come up with something, but it wouldn't be as cheap/inexpensive as what Blueprint offers.
Are you going to make it down to the Cobra meet in San Marcos this week?

I do have a builder. I saw a post here about someone waiting a year for a motor from Blueprint and it made me panic a little. My builder has not started on the build yet , when we first talked, I told him I wouldn't need it until Oct-Nov. So he hasnt acquired the block yet , that I know of. I thought he might run into this issue when he goes to order the block if this problem is everywhere.
I would like to come down there to the meet, my only opportunity is early Sunday or after work Saturday. My plans are early Sunday, I would also like to talk to some of the guys that trailered their vehicles.

I just loaded my DART 427w in my trailer about an hour ago - I'm ready to gooooo!!
It will be my first time trailering it so I'm no expert, but I'll be around Sunday morning for a little while if you want to stop by.
It will be my fist time down with my car too so I'm looking forward to meeting people since I don't know many of you yet.

Everyone leaves early Sunday. Try to come down Saturday around 4PM. Folks will be coming in from cruises getting ready for the banquet that evening, so there will be a lot of cars there.

I went through this a year ago when there were NO Dart blocks being made or were available. Mike Forte set me up with a Ford Boss block.
SAme here on all fronts. Forte couldn't procure a Dart block so I ended up going with the BOSS block. So far so good.
