Looking for some good advice on 5 point camlock seat belts for my MK4. I am looking for a camlock belt that has the cam attached to a side belt rather than the submarine belt. That way, I don't have to use the submarine ALL the time. Looking at Simpson, Racequip, GForce and a few others.

Also, will be selling my unused Simpson 5 point seatbelt that came with my Factory Five order. Let me know if interested.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Try Crow Enterprises. They make your belts to order. Competitive pricing and belts in a week.
I had a set made last fall. Chose black hardware with Camlock right side belt of driver seat.
Very happy with the product & service.

I replaced the FFR-provided harnesses with Simpson Camlocks, and they're like you describe - the cam lock is attached to one of the lap belt harnesses. I ordered them with 2" straps on the upper portion of the shoulder straps so they can be used with a HANS device on the track, but they can also be ordered with 3" shoulder straps. They're also available with black hardware but that was a 3-4 month backorder when I ordered mine so I went with the regular hardware.

Ted I went with SFI approved 5 point STV Motorsports, I prefer the 3" shoulder and 2" neck design, much more comfortable. These have been working fine now for a couple years of use. Easy to take on and off and the cam lock attaches to the side belt so you can run 4/5 point easily.

Just a few thoughts on camlok and belts in general.

I really like the camlok style, much easier to use with being able to insert each link individually. Some of the camloks will allow the user to determine which belt is the primary attachment point. Nice in case you change your mind.

Now about the anti-sub belt. This is the belt that keeps the lap belt in place (must be across your hips, not your waist) and then keeps the shoulder belts tight or at the same tension. If you stop fast w/o the anit-sub the shoulder belts pull up as your body pivots forward. This in turn pulls the lap belts up into your waist. Probably not a big concern during normal driving and hard braking but could be a real issue in an accident. The goal is to control and secure the belts in 4 directions, left, right, up, & down.

I won't run w/o the anti-sub belt properly in place. Might not be comfortable for everyone but then life is full of those little irritations.

Another option is Schroth Profi II ASM FE harnesses. https://www.schrothracing.com/item/profi-ii-asm-fe/fia-4-point-asm. They have the camlocks you want. Plus don't require a submarine belt. You can read their about their rationale on their website and decide if it convinces you. I have them in my Coupe and we're very happy with them. They are expensive though. When I was shopping, found the best deal at Winding Road Racing. Don't know if that's still the case. Selling the Simpson's can offset some of the cost.

I'm using the Crow Enterprises belts and cam lock as well. They are great and the wide shoulder belts are much more comfortable. Cam is the way to go.
Only complaint, and I don't think there's any avoiding it, those black metal cam locks get boiling hot in the summer sun. Those things feel like they're branding you sometimes.

You want to use the submarine belt all the time, although that goes with my other opinion that you should use a real seat all the time so with the standard low back seats I suppose it doesnt mean as much

Count me in the "always wear all the all belts" camp. High back or low back seat makes no difference to the need or effectiveness of a sub strap. I went go-karting with some friends about a year ago. The karts we were in only had a lap belt and shoulder belts. Halfway through the first session someone spun out in front of me and blocked the track. I stopped and got plowed into from behind by another kart. The lap belt rode up and cracked one of my ribs. This was at 20 mph. The damage to internal organs that you'd sustain in a real crash would be significant. If you can be bothered to wear 4 points, you can wear 5.
