What converter?

Running a 383 SBC rated around 425 - 450hp, 700R4 trans. What converter and stall are you finding to be the best for these cars?

FFR racing suggests about a 3000 to 3400 stall speed so you don't have to fight the brake pedal at stops, but some say that's a little high. The light weight of the car requires a higher stall speed than a normal vehicle. Mine is a TKX so I can't say personally.

Also your cam specs come into play, as well as intake manifold (dual- vs single-plane), and rear gears.

FFR suggested 3200 - 3400 RPM for my truck build. Which Gearstar Performance said they put into the GM 4L65E transmission they did for me. I have a 430 HP LS3 crate motor. Not legal or on the road yet. But I've driven it probably 10-20 miles around my neighborhood and it's just fine. When idling and in gear, easy to hold with the brakes.

I'm sure a (11" or 10" Converter / 2,500-3,000 RPM Stall) but better advice is available.

1. Often time manufacturers can really dial in a combo.
2. Have you considered reaching out to Hughes or TCI?

I have the same engine/tranny as edwardb in my Hotrod. I followed FFR recommendation to use a 3000-3400 stall converter, it works just fine.
On a level surface I hardly have to touch the stop pedal to hold the car. With my foot off the brake the car will slowly creep ahead.
I used the 298mm converter that GM specified for the 4L70e tranny.
