Guys,

I want to install my roadster rear harness through my transmission tunnel so that it will not interfere with my transmission when I install it later. Does anyone have photographs showing how they ran their rear harness through their transmission tunnel?

Thanks,

Damien

Not the best picture, but the only one I could find. I've done mine along the underside of the top LH corner of the transmission tunnel. Held in place with Adel clamps. Well out of the way of the transmission.

Here is my install with the TKX transmission. E-Stopp brake on the right side and the rear harness, soft fuel lines, and accessory harness on the left side. Riveted clamps about every 12 inches and cable tied everything together before I sealed up the tunnel.

Did you have to trim off the unused mounting boss on the bottom of the transmission case?

Thanks,

Damien

The TKO had a large boss along the bottom near the output. Pictured below. It was necessary to trim or remove completely to clear the Roadster frame. I haven't installed a TKX, but every picture I've seen it doesn't have this boss. Also mentioned by several builders when it was first introduced. If that's what you're talking about, nothing to trim on the TKX.

I did not have to do any trimming on the case at all. I was very happy about that and now I have extra room in the passenger side with no e-brake handle.

I don't have any good pictures. But I will tell you if you are using TKX, a SBF motor, and the handbrake in the original location, that tab is VERY close to touching the e-brake. Any adjustments will be difficult. I didn't cut mine off, but next time I have it up in the air I will. If you are doing a Coyote, I think you are fine. I tucked all my wires on the upper driver side of the trans tunnel; you'll have the most room there.

Soft fuel lines in the transmission tunnel...I urge you to consider routing your fuel lines a different way. If your drive shaft comes loose, it'll shred those lines & tunnel aluminum exposing you to a potential fire. A drive shaft loop will help mitigate that risk, but not to the extent that re-routing the fuel lines will.

And while you're running this harness, think about what else you need to add into it. Are you running back-up lights? What else, if anything?

Similar to what the others did. Here is how I routed the wiring through the trans tunnel. BTW, the engine and trans in this car is a 4.6L DOHC with TR3650.

Hi Damien,
I installed my rear harness about a month ago following the upper rail of the DS trans tunnel. I have the BPE 347 and TKX combo, as Ted G noted - there is a tab on the tranny right close to the ebrake mount - with hindsight i should have cut off the tab before installation.
I ran an extra line in the harness for trunk light as well as a light for the Breeze Cubby - ran it off the convenience light circuit LED so very little draw. I ran an in-tank fuel pump which requested a thicker ga. power line than the one in the harness, I ran it as a separate line since the harness was already in other wise a would have stripped out the unused lines an inserted the new wires. I ran 3/8" SS hard lines although the though of running Braided lines was appealing as opposed to bending but it worked out well. Good luck. Oh yeah this is a really good time to deal with the rear tail light LED Converter which needs to be wired into the rear harness - better done in the dash than downstream IMO.. Good luck.

Working on that right now. Thanks for the reminder.

Noticed you bundled two harnesses together. I'm doing the same thing? What type of insulated connector did you use and how did you attach to the 3/4 X 3/4 tunnel tube?

Thanks,

Damien

In general I used ADEL style clamps. They can be had in diameters from 1/4" to several inches in diameter. Where possible, I tried to mount all my clamps with screws, not rivets. Depending on the thickness of the metal, I would thread if thick enough or use rivnuts. Often the hardest part of securing the clamps was being able to drill the holes and thread or install the rivnuts. Choose your clamp location based upon access as much as anything else.
I recommend you route your harnesses where they route the best and are of sufficient length. Use zip ties to hold the harnesses in place until you can secure them with clamps. It is tedious, but doing a good job is important to keep the harness away from things that move.

I used a heavy piece of flexible landscaping conduit and Adel clamps. Added wires for reverse and trunk light.
