Installed Blue Print 302 with carburetor. Have 12 volts to positive side of coil. Not getting any spark when cranking engine.
New engine from Blue print

Check all the pigtails / jumper cables on the engine wiring harness. My 427 from BluePrint had a loose ground pin on the crank sensor pigtail. Spent weeks chasing that one.

What distributor and ignition system are you using?

Was able to engine to start by connecting positive battery terminal to positive coil terminal. Engine started then would not shut down with key off. Disconnected batter wire and engine died.
Must be a wiring issue between ignition switch and coil

ignition switch wired right? no power to coil when key is in start position?

I am pretty sure that one of the wires to the coil will shut off or have very little amperage while cranking in order to give starter full cranking power. I believe some have used the EFI Crank wire to circumvent this issue.

I am guessing you have a 1 wire alternator. Make sure you only have one wire going to the alternator. Finally yes use the orange coil/efi wire. Should fix all your issues.

How do I know I have a 302 Carbed BPE as well and I made the same mistakes.

Motor started. The orange Elfi wire was the issue. Having the carb I completely ignored the Elfi wire
Thanks everyone
Now my problem is the motor will only idle at 2,000 RPM. Idle screw adjusted- no help

RE: Idling fast. Choke on the carb working right once the engine is warmed up? Is your timing correct?

BPE does not adjust the carbs. They dyno them without the one they ship with. On mine I had to adjust the choke as well as the fast idle (not the same as the standard idle it is hidden under the choke). This video form Holley does an excellent job of getting you in the correct area for the adjustments. You just got to keep at it until everything is where you want it.

Malibu, If you run out of adjustment options, make sure the throttle plates are concentric with the throttle bores. If the plates hang-up and don't close, intake air gets by the plates.
You might see if they close enough from the top. Otherwise pull the carb and look through the venturis into the light.
It could be that the throttle plates are not centered on the throttle shafts. Loosen the plate screws, close the throttle and tighten the screws.

I had the same no spark issue, switched 12V didn't have voltage during cranking. Switched to the EFI/Coil circuit and cranked right up.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one who did this lol

Found the efficacy/ coil feed wire. Connected to positive coil. Motor starts and runs
Thanks

Thomas,

We dyno the engine with the same carburetor that is shipped on the engine. You are correct we don't tune the carburetor due to not knowing were the engine will be shipped too.

Thank You, Jose

Thank you for the correction. I couldn't remember when I was talking to the tech when I was dialing mine in.
