At this point I知 looking to install a pair of power receptacles. Amazon is flooded with choices good and bad it seems. I知 thinking a straight USB port is best, or like a dual A and C. I知 not sure how to choose one though. I知 looking for the most powerful (high speed charging) available, except all the reviews are so confusing. Some are overseas garbage, other are just plain misleading. If you致e installed something similar can anyone recommend something specific? TIA.

Blue Sea Systems is always quality stuff. I installed one of these on my under dash filler panel:

It's a dual USB-A with high speed charging.

Blue-seas is a great option. I tend to use marine-grade hardware whenever practical.

Depends on what u r trying to charge. Regular USB is 4.8A. A usb-c can charge 20-36A. The usb-c will charge a lot faster if the device can take it.

I used 3 from this kit. I would be surprised if these, all the others on amazon, and the blue seas ones arent all made at the same place in China. This one has been working fine for me so far.

If you want quality don't shop on Amazon. I know it's convenient, but it's littered with poor quality electronics. Some of it is even cloned like the high quality items and even branded as such while still being a cheap forgery. I'm not saying 100% of it is garbage, but the lion's share certainly is.

I shop for a lot of stuff on Amazon but I won't buy electronics unless I'm OK with the likelihood that what I'm going to get is a cheap counterfeit of what I really want. Apple did an investigation a while back and determined that 90% of Apple-branded goods being sold on Amazon were counterfeit, so take that FWIW.

I just ordered two of these https://www.amazon.com/12V-USB-Outlet-Charger-Socket/dp/B09SKXX1J9/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=3BY3IRG140GRJ&keywords=Quick+Charge+4.0+PD+Type+C+and+Quick+Char ge+3.0+USB+Charger+Socket%2C+AlfredDireck+12V%2F24 V+USB+Outlet+Car+Power+Outlet+Waterproof+Socket+wi th+Dual+Ports+for+Marine+Boat+Motorcycle+Golf&qid=1679002670&sprefix=quick+charge+4.0+pd+type+c+and+quick+charg e+3.0+usb+charger+socket%2C+alfreddireck+12v%2F24v +usb+outlet+car+power+outlet+waterproof+socket+wit h+dual+ports+for+marine+boat+motorcycle+golf%2Caps %2C376&sr=8-8. Plan is to put on in/under the dash. Second will go in the breeze cubby behind the cockpit.
I’ll ask an add-on question: any recommendations for where or where NOT to mount?

These devices have a small standby current. Probably worthwhile connecting to your switched accessories circuit in order to reduce battery drain.

I just mounted that exact receptacle in the diagonal upper part of the rear tunnel with the plan to set a charging phone down in the rear cubby. Even though it has its own off button and a timed shutdown, I wired it to a dash/console toggle switch powered on constant hot. That way I can charge without turning on the car, and also prevent battery drain by turning off the toggle.

I also used a marine grade dual USB plug that I installed in the dash. I thought about a plug with the newer c usb port(s) but when I'm traveling as long as the phone is charging I'm ok. I use my phone for GPS.
I also carry a usb to cigarette lighter socket adapter that I can use to inflate a tire etc.

I have since taken the radio out - gave it to my granddaughter for her car. I rarely ever listened to it :)

I installed a marine dual USB-C / "cigarette lighter" combo I got from West Marine. Both ports have protective flaps, the USB one has a darkened window that shows the batt voltage. When it is uncovered for USB access, it's rather bright.

Looks like several have ordered what I did also. I mounted it on the rear transmission tunnel. I repurposed the horn button into a monetary light switch for the cubby storage area.
