View Full Version : Electric Choke - is it a constant 12 v power supply

Hey guys. Need a little help here. I'm looking to hookup reverse lights and need a 12 volt power supply. Do you guys know if the electric choke is a 12 v key on power source? Any other good options? I really appreciate the guidance.

Ron Francis harness, right? Yes. It's an ignition circuit. On all the time the key is in run or start. You can see it in the fuse panel schematic in the wiring harness manual. It's a 10 amp circuit. If you're using LED's, you don't need nearly that much capacity. I've piggy-backed mine off of other circuits and used the choke circuit for something more substantial.

Yes, Ron Francis. Sorry I should have clarified the type of harness. I also need key on power for a tach adaptor for my autometer tach gauge. Would you recommend that I use the choke circuit for that? Thank you for the help!

You could use both the reverse light(s) and tach adapter on the choke circuit as long as together they don't exceed 10 amps. I suspect they don't, but you should check and/or measure.
