Transmission Question

I'm scheduled to receive my MK4 the end of August. Ordered complete package with IRS. Found an IRS out of a "21" Mustang with 3.55 gears and just 454 miles. I've decided on a 302 SMF delivering between 300 and 350 HP. My question is, what transmission. My research tells me a Tremec T5 world class transmission would be a good choice. Should handle the horsepower. I'm not looking to hit the track or abuse it. Just for show and cruising. I'm pretty good at rebuilding engines and transmissions so an old trans needing a rebuild isn't out of the question. Also, any thoughts on Bell Housing, Flywheel and Clutch Assembly will be appreciated. Thanks everyone. This forum is wonderful. David

I'd go with a TKX (newer version of the TKO). Also, I believe the transmissions are all about the same price (T5, TKO, TKX) roughly. I have a 427 with just an aluminum bell housing and pretty generic Kevlar/organic clutch kit with an external slave hydraulic clutch. Good luck on your build!

Double check that the '21 IRS will fit into a 2015 IRS set up.

Forte has TKXs at the lowest price I'm aware of.

Thanks Ted. I did check with tech support on the IRS and posted the same question on this forum. All said would work and just received today. Got lucky. This rear end looks brand new. And should, since it only had 454 miles on it. Highly recommend Midway Mustang of DeWitt, Iowa for late model mustang parts. great service.
