I have an Gen2 Coyote in my MK4. The cooling fan would run non-stop after reaching operating temp. I added a fan controller, Maradyne Perf. Fans Mfa136 Maradyne Pwm Contoller and set the low speed to approx 165 and high speed to 190.

After adding the fan controller, the engine light would come on (after reaching operating temp) and stay on, even after cooldown and a fresh start. The code is P0116, engine cooling temp.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a fix, with or without the fan controller?

Thanks,

The gen2 fan constantly running is a well-known issue and many folks, myself included, have installed the Maradyne PWM fan controller to solve the issue. I was not familiar with the P0116 error code, but a search turned up this thread (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?22388-2015-coyote-fault-code-P0116). Apparently that error code is a known software issue with the early gen2's. I never saw it with my late-Gen2 motor.

Curious - how did you set the low and high speed separately? There's only one adjustment pot on the fan controller. Did you just set the "fan on" to 165, and 190 is where it switches to full fan speed? Personally, I think 165 is a bit low for the fan to be turning on. I have mine set to turn the fan on at 190*F, and even when letting it idle in the garage on a hot day I've never heard it kick the fan on to full power.

JohnK,

You're correct in that it only has one adjustment screw, but here's my experience with it.

Per the instructions, "the fan will come on at half speed when the engine reaches temperature (you set it at). The controller will ramp up to full speed to cool the engine temp below starting temp". With that being said, from experience, the fan didn't switch to high until approx 190.

I've emailed Ford Racing, who I purchased the engine through, but haven't heard back yet.... Wondering if I will.

Wondering if I increase or lower the fan speed, if it will make a difference. It took until reasently to realize the the MIL light was not working at all. Replaced it and now trying to fix this issue.

Any chance it's just the stock temp sensor throwing a code?

I have had good luck talking to Ford Performance. They give good advice and don't charge anything if you are dealing with Ford Performance parts, which would include the Coyote. 800-367-3788
