View Full Version : Firewall forward and wiring on the bottom

Random late night musings. Has anyone with a firewall forward tried placing the wiring grommets horizontally, on the part that extends over the square 2x2? It might allow to nicely hide the cable routing underneath and potentially invisible, leave the firewall clean. For me in particular since I'm using the battery cutoff with angled posts, the wires have to make a weird loop to go through the front. That too would be mitigated if they were routed through the bottom. I'm not going to replace the firewall and rewire the car, but wondering if anyone else thought about it or tried it?

I routed almost all my wiring down through the bottom of the firewall forward. However, my kit came before F5 began supplying the grommets. I wrapped the wires in loom and then ran the loom through a short piece of hard plastic loom that F5 provided. Finally, I used some of the universal grommet material around the edge of the hole. That way the hard plastic loom rubbed on plastic grommet material.
If I were building today, I'd definitely route the wires through the bottom, even if I had to make my own grommets again.

Damn, now I'm thinking more about replacing the firewall and rewiring the car. I have to stop myself or this car will never be done :D Do you happen to have any photos you can share?

Great idea, I am in the process of routing my harness the same way. A couple of the harness runs had large multipin connectors (that i didn't want to de-pin). I just cut a slot in the firewall horizontal leg to get the larger connections through. I'll make a small plate to close out and seal the slots and grommets once everything is final. 180494180495

Here's a photo about mid-way through the process of running all the wires through the hole.
