As the title says, my brakes squeal. I have the standard FFR brakes with Hawk HP+ fitted (the + is for extra dust)

Whilst these brakes work well enough, they squeal whenever applied. I smeared copper anti seize on the back side of the pads which reduced noise a little bit, but it is still pretty bad. Any tips?

Cheers, Nige

You mention you bought the extra dust feature, I’m curious if the pads have dust worked into them. Did they always squeal or did it start after awhile?

G'day Mark,

Squealed from very start.

I thought that was normal for these pads.. a consequence of their formulation and effectiveness. My HP+ do the same.. it’s not constant but regular.

I used those on my Miata and really disliked them, but they were very quite, never had a noise problem. Did not like the taper on the leading and trailing edges of the pad, lost a lot of friction area because of it. Could try the Hawk HPS to see if that is better for noise or check a Miata forum, lot of opinions on brake pads for similar weight/wheel base type car.

I have had brakes squeal when one of the caliper slide pins was sticking, might be worth taking a look at.

I have hp+ on my mustang and they squeal with light braking so loud I see people roll up the windows I haven't tried to fix it since I don't street drive this car anymore.
as for extra dust it's impossible to keep my wheels clean.
what I can say is I can about do a reverse wheelie with them.
they are great track pads.

I had that happen once. It was crappy rotors. Couldn’t be fixed. Bought better rotors and it went away

See if you can find a supplier in your area for the pictured product. Apply to the contact areas between the back of the pads and calipers and pistons. Fills in the air gaps that create the squeal.

What Norm says. :D Should be able to find something similar in any good auto parts store, but not sure about in Australia? I would get the anti-seize off the pads as soon as you can, I would be afraid the heat would cause it to drip onto the rotors?

I have used this product. It does help. Ford f150 brakes are notorious for squealing when backing up. I put the product on the flat metal anti rattle clips and where the piston seats on the back of the pads.
I got the front quiet, but need to address the rear, next time the wheels come off.

REPCO, (Australian company) used to make a really good anti-squeal product. It was paste that came in a tube You put a dab on the back if the pad, and when it cured felt like silicone.
