Yesterday my friend of over 50 years, I'm 60 and Dave is 61, took our cars out to do some back road, highway and interstate cruising.

My car is the infamous Redbone Roadster that sports a 383 SBC and ZF 6-Speed with 3-Link, while my pal Dave has a Gen-2 Hot Rod with a 400 SBC, 700-R4 with a 4-Link. The 383 makes about 465 HP making similar torque figures while the Blue Print 400 makes a tad over 500 ponies. Dave does have an upgraded 4-Link with QA1 Adjustable Uppers which he said greatly improved the ride and pinion angle adjustment.

I rode with my pal for the first half the cruise while Baby Go-Dad drove solo in the MK-4. The second half of the ride I hopped in Redbone with my son making it truly a day of fun. Since I had never been in the passenger position, in both cars on the same day, it gave me an interesting perspective after riding shotgun. The roads we traveled were curvy and tight to long and sweeping. A short interstate jaunt got us up to less than legal speeds as well.

My take away is the Cobra is snotty, nimble and very capable while the 33-HR is smooth as silk almost to the point of being elegant. Both cars handled the different roads with no problem, but the 33 is far more roomy and is a great highway and interstate capable cruiser. To pick a favorite is simply a matter of which car you like, but both are great machines that can easily hang with each other no matter what road you are on.

If you are still wrenching, riveting, filling, sanding, smoothing and painting know that the journey you are on is well worth taking. If you are thinking about pulling the trigger and ordering your dream car, do it as soon as you can fit it into your schedule because it is a life changing event that few people ever experience.

As I have built and driven several MK4's and 33's I have to say your take is spot on. I do really miss my MK4. Something about the rawness of it is so intoxicating to me. Maybe I will build myself one in the future again. Thanks for bringing back some good memories!
