Anyone have any suggestions where and how to move it closer to the driver? I've seen enough pictures and heard enough accounts that the passenger side of the trans tunnel is not practical enough to use while belted in.

Mines a totally different car - hot rod - but I went through the same thing. I modified my trans tunnel - here just for inspiration.

Most seems to fit an e-stopp (?)

On my own car as well as some that I've built for customers I've used a Mustang handle located here:

Just a couple of simple 90 degree brackets bolted to the trans tunnel tube to secure the handle and then a piece of flat steel made up to attach the cables towards the rear on the driver's side.

I use the FFR boot and make a bezel from 1/8" flat aluminum.

Hope that helps!

Similar to Jeff's.
I used Miata handle. But on the passenger side of the shifter.

I relocated it to the top of the trans tunnel on the driver sid e reusing the FFR handle. I used Wildwood cables tho. Here's the post: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?40301-Danny-Boy-s-Mk4-Build-Sneak-in-some-work-before-the-body-goes-back-on&p=482320&viewfull=1#post482320

Thanks everyone. This is exactly the inspiration I need to DIY something on my end.

I used a Fierro brake lever to the left of the driver seat. It was a mod talked about a lot in 2003 with MKII builds. Sorry I didn't take any pictures of the build worth sharing. I did recently get a new custom boot for it, the original was in real bad shape.

It might be possible to move the handbrake to the left-hand side of the tunnel. I have a right hand drive car and having the handbrake next to me has never been a problem. It is an easy reach.

Still, it is a bit of work to accomplish.

Cheers,

Nigel

Ideally I want it on the top, left side of the tunnel, exactly where Jeff has his. I've seen the Fiero lever, which is a neat idea, but I'm right-handed and would feel more comfortable having the lever to my right. On the outside chance I actually have to use it in an emergency, I'd like it in a familiar place where I can quickly reef on it.

I considered this but Fiero parts are impossible to find as well these days from my readings.

Lobar EHB-7000F if you can’t find suitable Mustang or Fiero part.
Lokar..

I cut my E-brake brackets off and converted to Wilwood electric parking brake.

I cut my E-brake brackets off and converted to Wilwood electric parking brake.

That was my original plan, but then I realized I'm playing a bit too much with "house money" building this Cobra and need to reel in the extravagances a little. If I ever want to convert, I know it's possible.

I mounted mine on top to the right. Wanted to be able to reach it when I was belted in. I used a Lokar handle from Forte.

"928" style, eh?. :)

I guess I have long arms, but I've never found it cumbersome to reach the e-brake at the standard location.

I mounted a Lokar handle to the right of the shifter on top of the tunnel. What I found was that with this lever I can't seem to generate enough leverage to securely set the brake. Definitely will not hold at all on any kind of slope, so with the trans removal and repair, I think it's going to be eliminated, and replaced with the E-Stopp. "C:\Users\rick\OneDrive\Pictures\20201208_171929.jp g" Sorry, that didn't work to install the picture. I'll try again. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52689026587_0059dbccdf_k.jpg (https://www.flickr.com/gp/156322842@N02/7jjmh4v0Ci)20201208_171929 (https://www.flickr.com/gp/156322842@N02/7jjmh4v0Ci) by Rick Paul (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156322842@N02/), on Flickr
