What should I be paying to recover the interior, namely the seats, center console, waterfall, and both door skins? I just got a quote to do these in my choice of fabric (same price so long as it is not actual true leather) that unfortunately is higher than I hoped it would be. The seat inserts will be replaced and double stitched, the door panels will be fully custom and the console recovered in my choice of material then double stitched. What should I be thinking as a realistic cost? The material will be leather "like".

Thx for the input.

Jim

Well, I had two racing seats covered in custom covers a couple years back for $40 each. They actually turned out WAY nicer than I thought. All cross stitched and with lots of padding. I DO live pretty close to the border though, and there ARE a lot of upholstery shops around here to get good deals at...if you speak Spanish!

Yo quero Taco Bell!

$40.00 per seat, I think "My Race Shop" should offer custom interiors! $1500.00 would go a long way toward an interior at $40.00 per seat. Thanks crash, guess I am getting Taco Bell tonight.

Jim,

I saw this post last night and almost replied but I don't own a gtm "yet" but maybe some of these answers will help as I have had a number of projects over the years.

My experience is this. If fiberglass modifications are needed or they need to make a mold then that in my experience is the most costly. Some shops actually don't even do that type of work and have it jobbed out.

If you have some custom work done or do it yourself make sure its someone they recommend or ask them questions. I know this from experience. I has a custom box mad for a westfelia. In short the upholsterers had such a difficult time hiding the seams that it cost me more to do that box then to carpet the whole car.

Next smaller shops do the best work in my experience but usually cost more because they need to focus on your car to get it out to move on another car.

Lastly, shops don't have any experience with a GTM I imagine...... so giving you a quote based on hours to complete is tough. They are guessing and will usually quote you high. Worst case scenario they make a little more.

I have a great reputation with a shop here and he has done my last three cars. You see nothing but porsches and jaguars and other in the shop so you assume it must be a great job. It is but I would never go to him for custom work. He is all about turning cars and wont take the time to make sure I get exactly what I want. But if you want carpet, headliner, ect done....it will be done quickly and top notch work and a great price.

Hope that helps.

This is true, but they may have some experience with Ferrari's and/or Lamborghinis. I use these two cars as reference when I speak to interior shops about doing this work for me. They understand what that is and what the lay out is.

I would be afraid to use those names in a shop I am unfamiliar with because they hear those names and....cha ching goes through there heads.

This person is a one woman show in Florida working out of her home, from her website she does great work. I have worked out a deal with her to recover the seats and the center console as well as the waterfall in red/black leather with double stitching all around with diamond pattern stitching on the seat inserts. The door panels will have to wait (the door panels will be $450 for both) which will not fit into the budget at this point.

Jim,

How much where you quoted for the rest?

She is doing the 4 pieces for $750.00 total. I tried to get her to reduce prices through a group buy but she said it would not matter as she can only work on one interior at a time. I am restoring an older Camaro so I paid for those to get done first to see the quality. From our convesation both on the phone and online she seems to know her stuff and was very honest with her limitations. Love a straight shooter.

That sounds like a great deal but I would get references. Upholstery also is about longevity and it wont do you any good to save a few hundred if you need to have the seat redone in 3-5 years.

That would be my only concern....will the stitching last and the quality of the material.

There is a lot of printed rhetoric that needs to be crapped on.

Shane that is a really good deal. I have had quite a bit of upholster work done on my cars and have always paid much more than that! We might be adding this to the list on my car.

P.S. Shane, Crash, Quick Racing products, Carbonfiber Please stop making such quality products until I am finished with my car as if you do not, I will never finish! I am sure Shane dosen't mind my car sitting there but I am sure its going to get in the way eventually!

Shane,
Will there be a list/photo gallery of the material and stitching color options? Even with Shipping this is a great deal.

Shane, do you have any photos of the interior work at the $1550.00 level?

Not yet......hopefully very soon. I'll post them up when I get them.

Vidal,

I'm guessing this will be more of a one-at-a-time, custom basis than a set menu of colors to choose from. I'm guessing that guys who want the stitching to match their paint color are going to have to mail me a spray-out of whatever color their car is so we can best color-match the stitching to whatever is closest color we have available. Probably same with materials. If you've got a material color or grain you're looking for, we could probably mail you out a few samples to choose from so you can see first hand what you're getting.

Shane, I may need to talk to you in regards to finishing my Gen I GTM. It needs the interior redone too as well as re-assembled. Mark Dougherty started it 18 months and $4400 ago and it is even more disassembled and missing items than when I dropped it off to him as a running car. I've bought several of your parts but may need to have you finish this car once and for all.
