Hi all,

New here, but deep down the rabbit hole in other areas! A few months back I placed an order for a 65R Coupe - in the short term it will be used as an HPDE car and later plan to modify for W2W racing. I ordered without the aero kit as I want to continue to develop my pure mechanical grip driving skills. The Mustang scratches the big aero itch for now.

My delivery is for end of May, so I have a good ways to go. But I figure I should get the documentation started and this is a good time to start planning.

Build as follows:

FFR Kit:

65 Daytona Coupe R Complete Kit
Bare chassis
302/351 mounts
Body cutouts
Stock seats (will be replaced)
Power steering
IRS

Drivetrain

Ford 302 HO
Jerico 4spd
Clutch - undecided
Ford Mustang GT diff - still playing with rear gear ratios

Vendor sourced parts:

Yellow speed Air jacks
ATL Fuel Cell with Radium Surge tank
AIM PDM32 and 10in screen + backup camera

To be determined:

Seats - curious what folks are using for dedicated track cars. Do any halo seats even fit?
Coolshirt system - leaning towards a Chillout system (texas heat is murder and I am tired of changing ice so much)
Steering wheel - Definitely need something removable. I use a Sparco and NRG hub in the 350
Wheel size - Has anyone run Pirelli take-offs on their Coupe? Which size?
Fire system

AS for the rabbit hole I mentioned, I've been slowly building a GT350 dedicated track car that I've run a lot at COTA and have had the pleasure of running quite a few tracks from all over the country.

These days, she's under the knife too. After blowing the motor again (the OEM flat plane crank is a vibration monster), I decided to do a full tear down and take the race car conversion full throttle

Finished stich welding the entire chassis a couple months ago. Got the roof off and rear package tray out. Trackspec roll cage install started this week

Okay - last post with reminiscing. Here's a PB from the last event I ran the car at

Okay - back on topic. I'll be picking up the engine from my friend in a couple of weeks and will start going through it to ensure its ready for some road course work.

In the meantime, I am back to planning the electrical wiring and trying to explore options for seat compatibility and odds and ends like if what it takes to install an aftermarket steering wheel. Please share any experience or insights you all might have :)

GTRich and I are running for steering wheel and hub:

Buy yourself and extra piece of DD steering shaft and you can preserve/swap out the FFR shaft/wheel/hub.

Whether you are running the Coyote or voodoo dry sump them or you will keep going through engines. I also have some Huge 14" brake systems for the coupe that are bolt in.

I am also building an R and have similar goals. I've made a few YouTube videos on wiring ideas:

Perfect. Thanks for sharing!

Yep - GT350 is getting a Dailey Engineering drysump. Also converting to crossplane - the flat plane crank is a nightmare for race use and will just vibrate everything apart.

Thanks for the heads up on the brakes! What kits do you have/recommend for dedicated track use (only street use my car will see is driving from my garage to the trailer).

Hey Rich, I've been following your build for a month or so. Loving the red!

I have used the dailey systems, you have to watch the scavenge vacuum and will be adding another gauge to the car. I use and am a dealer for Aviad. You will want one for the coupe also. Give me a call 520-494-2745 and we can talk brakes. I have some bolt in 14" Aero 6/4 systems that are awesome effective brakes.
