What is everyone doing to secure the threaded part of the spinner inside the wheel? Someone mentioned o rings. How does this work? Is there another way?

I used 329 Silicone O-Ring, 70A Durometer, Red, 2" ID, 2-3/8" OD, 3/16" Width, though they are not available on Amazon anymore but search for that size as anything close will work. They slip over the hub and give some fiction against wheel so you can turn the spinner without the hub turning too.

There are other techniques, like a pool noodle squished in behind the hub or installing a set screw through the wheel, but the o-rings are cheap, easy, long lasting and have been reliable for me.

+1 on the o-ring works like a champ. Also use some lube on threads (Cobra Valley spinner eaze) when threading spinner on, small dab will aid when removing. Another tip install spinner hand tight then a light tap with dead blow is all you need. Tighten set screw only finger tight so you don't damage threads.

Hmmm. I put my o rings on the inside of the hub. Gives enough friction to start removing the spinners but isn’t visible from the outside

If you don't use the "fake" cover over the lugnuts, you don't even need to remove the spinner. Just loosen it and rotate a bit to get to all the lug nuts. That's how I do it on mine. btw: I have TIII wheels so that may be different than F5's.

It's not uncommon for the spinner hub to just spin and not allow the spinner to be removed. All of the approaches described above are ways to help prevent that from happening. If you can't remove the spinner and are using the lug cover, you can't get the wheel off the car. Usually, that ends up with the destruction of the spinner and spinner hub and possibly damaging the wheel itself.

I only tighten my spinners hand tight. No lead mallet hammering. Put them on the correct side and they shouldn’t loosen from driving.

Good catch, actually I do too. Winter has been too long. The o-ring goes on the hub first then the hub goes in the wheel.

I have been using silicone since day 1 to hold the hub & a few taps with a rubber mallet after the spinner is hand tight. Have never used the set screws as I thought the threads on the hub were too soft.

I did something similar, but took it a step further. CDXXVII made some rings and was kind enough to give me a set. I attached the rings to the spinner mount with some roll pins (with the help of a machinist friend), essentially making it a one piece assembly. The set screws hold the two-piece assembly in the hub of the wheel/rim.

Years after I did these, I have wondered if the ring could just be welded to the spinner mount. Maybe next time....
