View Full Version : Stewart Delivered to a Neighbor!
I saw the big red truck with the Factory Five Racing livery at a neighbor's house yesterday. I was curious what he was planning to build, but was surprised by what was in the truck.

Evidently, Stewart does a lot more than FFR kits.

well isn't that a bit of fun. So how often do you plan to stumble into his garage?

I'm sure I'll have many opportunities to pop in when I see his doors open.

Very cool - is that a Van's kit? I was just talking about the RV-10 with friend.

I'm not sure. He's been building it for some time, but I don't know any details.

Yes, that’s one of the other special services Stewart offers.

So, there's every possibility a visit from a Stewart Stewart truck is on your horizon? :)
Does your neighbor have a runway? (or a field big and flat enough for a grass landing strip) Depending on how quickly he completes his build, it could be a very interesting summer for you!

Don't think so. As shown in the pictures here, that one's partially built so takes special handling. Typically known in the industry as a quick build, meaning the mfg does enough to keep it under the 51% owner built requirement.

No runway or enough property to take off or land. I assume the wings go on/off relatively easily to transport the finished plane to an airfield.

The first thought that came to my mind after perusing this thread was "build quality".

If it is a kitfox (which is what I suspect it is) the wings fold for transportation.

That looks like loads of fun. I only wish I had the space to take on a project like that. I also see hanging above his wings are the EFlight Timber STOL, Piper Cub and Spitfire. I do a bit of RC flying on the side myself. Not long ago I had that same conversation with my wife would it be more fun to have a kit car or plane. For the price of an RV you can seat yourself in a Titan aircraft P51 re-creation. T51 I believe is their designation.

The driver who delivered my Mk4 (And Ted's) told me after he had delivered the cars he would head up to Oregon to pickup plane kits, so I kinda already knew this.

Looks like a Van’s to me! All skinned with aluminum. Fuselage is in the background.

KitFox?
Craig C
No, Kitfox has fabric wings. Looks like a RV7 quick build kit
Can’t remember the company’s name but I’m pretty sure they are built here in Eugene Oregon

EdwardB and others are correct. It's a Vans Aircraft kit. The planes can be built from pre-punched aluminum parts or they offer a partially complete kit where you can pay for portions of the kit to arrive more complete (wings, fuselage, etc.) The FAA allows it as long as 51% or more is completed by the customer. Vans is located in Oregon. When my MK4 was delivered by Stewart in September 2022(Chicago area), they were working their way west delivering more cars. They were then picking up aircraft kits from Vans to be delivered. There are thousands of home built aircraft and Vans is the "Factory Five" in the aircraft world selling plans since 1972. At the Oshkosh airshow last summer, I believe they said they had 11,000 completed aircraft with a new completion every 1.5 days.

The vans is sweet I wish I could afford an experimental but my certified plane cost way less. GA is so stupid and if we could everyone would leave certified behind. The government makes it virtually impossible to keep them flying safely without flat out lying. They don't care about safety they care about control and at least for this particular topic is it is irrefutable. None of it makes sense.

When I took delivery of mine the driver told me the vast majority of their business outside of FFR was delivering airplane kits.

Never seen the Stewart truck around my little field, but it seems that FFRs and experimental aircraft seem to go together.
My shop is at ARR (Aurora Airport in Sugar Grove, IL), which is sorta a vortex for cool aircraft - especially warbirds.
