Hi all,
I have a GM connect and cruise LS3 crate engine and TKX transmission and I’m wondering whether or not it’s necessary for me to index the bell housing? I’ve seen some videos online talking about how it’s a good idea to make sure they are centered, but everyone I’ve talked to in person has said it’s not necessary for a new package like this. What are the group’s thoughts?
Thanks

Tremec won't warranty the trans if you don't do it. It will probably be ok, but always a good idea to check it.

Did mine 5 years ago (Dart 351w/427, Quicktime bell housing, TKO-600), but as I remember it, Tremec's tolerance on the trans input shaft was .005" (5 thousands), which is very tight. I did the measurements and checks, and it was right at that .005" tolerance with those new items/parts.
If it ends up being out of tolerance, there are "offset" alignment pins that can be used on the bell housing.
Edit: Tolerance changed to .005".

IMO, it's an absolute must do for any Tremec trans install

As stated above, a must do for Tremec to warranty. Document it with pictures. You can look on my build thread on how I did it. It was about .008, .003 over minimum spec which is .005 not .0005
Bruce's long awaited journey begins #1294, page 3 post 92. You'll need a dial indicator with a magnetic base to do it. The measurement you get will be twice the actual spec.

Yes, you do want to check the concentricity of your bell housing. As stated, it's required for warranty purposes. Here's my thread on dial-indicating my gen2 coyote with Quicktime bell housing. If you haven't done this before, do yourself a favor and buy a decent dial indicator and base, and not the cheap Amazon ones.

My take on it is that if you have an aftermarket bellhousing it's a must, but if you have a factory GM bellhousing (you have an LS3) then it's not. With that said, I'm using a Ford bellhousing on my build and it took me about 20 minutes to setup my dial indicator and spin the engine around to find out that I was within limits.

Oops, you're right. .005". Bad memory. I'll revise my post. A mind is a terrible thing to, uh.. ummm... to, uh...
