I'm slowly chipping away at the electrical system and all the connections and I came across an open wire coming off the distributor cap. There are 4 wires off the cap and 3 of them go to the ignition coil. Not sure what this single grey wire is for and if it needs a connection or not.

Second, I have the FFR Vinyl Dash and as many have noted, theres only precut holes for the horn, ignition, and headlights. For those with the vinyl dash, this there a special way to cut holes to not mess up the vinyl that you recommend? Also looking for any recommendations and what else and where to throw on the dash. I know I need to add the turn signal switch somewhere and I've heard a lot of people like just to the right of the steering wheel. I'm thinking of throwing the hazard switch hidden under the dash to minimize clutter and cutting but what do you all think?

Thanks!

The other wire coming from the distributor may be a tach signal wire. For the padded dash, it drills easily with standard bits or with a step bit.

I had my turn signal switch to the left of the wheel and the indicators between the speedo and tach with the high beam light. I hated the turn signal and went with a Russ Thompson self cancelling one. Nowadays, there are some pretty slick electronic ones.

Interesting, there was a wire terminal zip tied to the negative side of the ignition coil and I figured that was where the tach signal comes from... Maybe both are inputs? This is off of a 347 BPE

Yeah I might eventually upgrade to one of those, but I used to ride so I'm used to the pain of having to cancel my turn signal haha

I should have been more specific. That wire is the tach signal for your EFI tach signal input if you have EFI. You should never connect an EFI ECU directly to the coil unless it specifically indicates that in your EFI instructions. The Holley Sniper has a wire that connects to the coil (-), for example.

I have a carbed BP 347 and had the same question on the gray wire. Jose at BP told me it can be used as a tach signal which is what I did and it works fine.

I used a step bit for cutting additional holes in the dash and then cleaned it up with a razor blade.
