Hi all,

I recall in some other posts about the FFR soft top, many people recommended using some sort of track day tape where the FFR soft top contacts the body to prevent damage to the clear coat and/or paint. Does anyone have a brand of track tape they recommend for this? Or is my recollection totally off?

Just got my soft top over the weekend, getting excited about putting it on.

Thanks!
Brandon

I use static cling that I buy online.

I use black masking tape or gaffing tape. Keep a roll in the trunk and lay down a strip under the rubber back bow. Overall works pretty good.

I have seen clear bra installed in that area.

I have clear 3M on mine and on the top of the doors where the side windows sit, also protects from a watch strap. After 18 years it is starting to yellow but helps keep the paint.

I have PPF on my rear deck from the edge of the cockpit to just beyond where the soft top sets. The rear deck makes a great place to toss a jacket!

If you search 'clear bra material' you will find a ton of options. Buy a little more than you need for the top because the stuff really comes in handy. I used some on the top of my doors like David W did. Another use is for a clear version of fender protectors for the front of the rear fenders.

Any of the above. In the thread you referenced, I included pictures of the damage to the clear coat that happens if nothing is used. I was a little surprised that the topic hadn’t come up before considering the money invested in the painting of these cars. The key is to use something. I removed all of my vinyl decals and meatballs because Tuesday I’m getting the car professionally detailed and with paint correction. Once that is completed I’ll use something more permanent that is more difficult to detect and any of the well known PPF offerings should do. Up until now, I didn’t care that you could see it as it had an important purpose.

Thanks all for the suggestions, helpful as always!

Mark - it was your car that I saw. I'm sure the paint correction will be well worth it!

Thanks Chopper. The cleanup and polishing came out great. It’s still 21 year old paint but it’s better now. Good luck!
