If wipers are not required for Texas registration I would prefer to not install them. Anyone in Texas please advise me.
unfortunately, yes. wipers are required if you have a windshield in TX. I guess you could potentially not install the windshield to get around it, but that doesn't sound like a good alternative

We've done a couple of Mk4 Roadsters for Texas owners. Neither had wipers. Think it all depends where you take the car for a ASE inspection. Same thing goes on here and while the vehicle code calls for them many get registered without them. I am not an authority for Texas registration, simply sharing my experience.

Yes.. but :)
But you can do something temporary for ase (Excalibur in Austin are highly recommended) and I also use them for annual too (if needed). I personally have no wipers, use aquapel and drive in downpours.

Just registered mine in houston (Harris county) and I dont have wipers. Never came up as an issue at any of the inspections.

I did these.

Passed without an issue..
After the inspection was done I asked the mechanic if I really needed the wipers to pass. I asked if I could have used a set of manual wipers even. He said he would have passed without anything no problem.
When I setup the appointment, the guy at the front desk was adamant I needed them. The mechanic was indifferent.
The wipers have never been put back on my car since. :)

I recently did this I think it depends on which ASE does it. I mocked up a similar device to the link skidd gave above. Your welcome to borrow it if you want but its just a single wiper and motor. I'm in the Dallas area but happy to drop in the mail if you are far out.

Whatever you decide to do, I encourage you to get the "Custom vehicle" or "Street Rod" plates and avoid yearly inspections.
For 15 years I would take my Cobra in for the yearly Texas inspections. I finally took the time to process the paperwork with the TxDMV to get the Street Rod plates. No more yearly inspections.
Last month I did it again with a replacement Cobra that also needed to be titled. I had to trailer the Cobra to the inspection place, but to me it was worth it.
You may already going down this route, but if not, here is a link with the DVM instructions
https://www.txdmv.gov/sites/default/files/body-files/Assembled_and_Reconstructed_Vehicle_Manual.pdf
Look at Chapter 4 for detailed steps and the forms / paperwork you need. I followed these instructions and was in and out of the DVM with a title and registration in minutes.... (after a wait to talk to an agent, ha ha)
Whether you put on permanent or temp wipers, I encourage you to take this route.
Good luck
