awesome!! doesn't that failed start feel like clark griswold plugging in the lights?
behind every guy who is crazy enough to build their own car is a very tolerant and understanding woman. my wife even encouraged me to build a garage to house my projects.

That might be the best analogy I've ever heard. I felt EXACTLY like Clark Griswold!

When I was a teenager and my 1st car wasn't running right, I was in the pits for weeks until I figured it out...and sure enough, my Dad's troubleshooting was spot-on-- file those points! :)

That's a great video and a sweet sounding engine.

I had a similar experience. I had run my engine on a test stand so I knew all was good with the ECU and ignition. Get everything in the car and full of confidence, crank crank crank. Check a few things and more crank crank crank. On about the 8th-10th try it was spinning pretty good and when I let off the starter it caught and fired! I ran it for a few minutes and all seemed fine so I called it a day.

The next day it wouldn't start again. Checking things I found there wasn't any spark. Finally figured it out, I wired the switched 12V to the spark box from the acc side of the fuse block so when it was cranking the spark box wasn't getting 12 volts. That explained why it caught and fired the one time, when I let off the starter the spark box got 12 volts, fired, and there was enough RPM in the engine to fire. Moved it over to 12V not from the acc circuit so it has full voltage during cranking and off she went. Duh
