I am having problems with my ebrake cables. I ran them under the 4" crossmember, but the cables are rubbing on a sharp edge of the frame attached to the crossmember. Has anyone had this same issue, and is there a workaround? I was thinking about just grinding it eliminate the edge, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't a better solution before I let the sparks fly.

A lot of folks have adopted this mod (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?18591-EdwardBs-Mk4-8674-20th-Anniversary-Build&p=225428&viewfull=1#post225428) that Paul (Edwardb) showed in his 20th anniversary roadster build thread.

On 3 or 4 cars I have used nylon spacers along with 1/4-20 bolts tapped into the round tube to serve as guides to direct the cables away from obstructions and keep them separated. It’s worked well.

Or a piece of black heater hose 3 inches long. Slit it lengthwise, put it around the cables and secure w/ a wire tie.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I like these ideas a lot better than grinding. I think I can make one of these work.

Except that the cables actually move against the frame in this area. They are coated cable but not sheathed, so they do need to get away from the sharp edge, but I would tend to think the heater hose would make it difficult to actuate the brake.
The pulley mod seems to be the best long term solution, but in my case the safety loop is in the way of cable routing for this.
