I was fitting up my sheet metal on my transmission tunnel and something seems off. I wasn't sure if it is the sheet metal or if the frame was welded off, since it is asymmetric about the center of the frame. Could someone look at theirs and tell me what theirs looks like?

Mine sits level. Make sure it's all the way down on the high side. I had to tweak mine a little.

The transmission tunnel is offset slightly to the right. Plus it's welded in a massive frame fixture. It's not off. The bends on aluminum pieces while usually pretty good sometimes need to be tweaked. Can see at the bottom it's not sitting level. One of these is your friend. https://www.harborfreight.com/6-inch-jaw-straight-sheet-metal-seamer-98728.html

Thanks. I will give it some persuasion. I need an excuse to head to HF to grab an air saw. :D

My tunnel was way off. None of the aluminum pieces would physically fit, even though they were formed properly. I remade all three pieces. The rear piece needed an awkward skew angle to fit properly. I suspect their jig has removable pieces for the tunnel that aren't exact.

Yet another example of why I don't like referring to these as "kits". It does not feel very much like a "kit" when these sorts of issues present themselves. It takes some work along with perhaps some ingenuity to see these projects through.

I suppose the average Joe that walks up at the car show simply does not understand this as he's never been through the process.

It’s the difference between being a builder and an assembler. You assemble IKEA bookshelves, you have to build these cars.

Mr. Kleiner's quote of the century:

"It’s the difference between being a builder and an assembler. You assemble IKEA bookshelves, you have to build these cars."

I have never heard it stated better. If first time buyers really understood this there might not be so many unfinished kits with unsatisfied frustrated owners.

When the question comes up as to what the car is, and the reference to a "kit car" comes up, I respond, "No, you put together a kit, I am building a car."

I am in full agreement with that! ;) I always like to check before taking the nuclear option. Since there have been other items from past posters that were not correct.

I thought mine was level but after checking again I see it is a little off.

Same issue, mine is equally off.
