I’m a fan of Weldwood’s All Weather Outdoor Carpet adhesive after using it with my trunk liner and carpet. I have the foot boxes left to do and need to order a bit more, but a call to DAP confirms they’re out of inventory to ship to suppliers, with no production run date scheduled due to supply issues. So, I need another option.

I’ve used 3M 77 on other parts of the car and really like it, but I’m leery of the ‘where you put it, it stays for good’ aspect, and beginning my learning curve down in the foot boxes. I really like the ability to move things around slightly before rolling everything into place.

Anyone have good luck with any of the big box alternatives (HD closest) for outdoor carpet adhesive?

Almost any hardware store big box should care it. Maybe they aren't sold out?

Hey John, I used the Loctite Power Grab heavy duty construction adhesive. I tried Super77, silicone, and loctite power-grab. The loctite gave me the perfect initial-grab while still giving it just enough mushiness to slide. Silicone wouldn't grab and just slides around. Super77 grabs right away and is almost impossible to slide around. I think my whole carpet took 4 full tubes of the stuff. My local home-depot had them in stock.

Thanks Dan, perfect. Rich - their contact cement easy to find, the outdoor carpet adhesive, not so much.

John, all I've ever used was the contact cement, never tried the carpet adhesive.

I used the solvent based Weldwood Outdoor Carpet Adhesive on my 20th Anniversary Roadster and my Gen 3 Coupe. I vaguely recall learning about it from another forum post. But not positive. That was quite a few years ago. I've suggested it multiple times and I know others liked how it worked as well. Once you get past the very strong solvent smell, allows re-positioning and stays put once rolled down. But for my truck build, I also found it wasn't available anywhere. So I experimented with Roberts 6700 Indoor/Outdoor Carpet Adhesive from my local Home Depot. It's latex based so doesn't have the strong odor. Certainly way cheaper. It doesn't grab quite as well when rolled down, but allows re-positioning and if you go back and roll it a couple of times a few minutes apart stays down well. Before committing to actual carpet pieces in the truck, I did several test pieces. After 24 hours or so, a pull test separated the backing. I was satisfied and did the rest of the interior with it. I found it to be a very acceptable alternative.

Thanks guys. I’ve used the 3M 90 as well and like it for certain things, but as I said, I’m looking for an adhesive that allows a few minutes of adjustment. Paul, I agree with everything you had to say about the Weldwood, it’s great stuff if available. Your review was exactly what I was hoping for, and they have the Roberts at the local HD. I’ll give that a try. Appreciate the feedback, everyone.
